April 09, 2026

The 2025/26 ADFF festival season may have officially wrapped, but the conversation around architecture and film never stops. While we prepare for our 2026/27 season, we continue our focus to the creators and special screenings that keep our community inspired.

April 30 in New York City - Building On The Edge

ADFF and Grohe will have our next installment of Cine Night x Grohe on April 30th. The screening take place at the LIXIL Water Experience on 155 5th Ave. The film is Building On The Edge, directed by Mike Scalisi and Bruce Borowsky. The film is captivating documentary that explores the intersection of daring architecture and the world’s most challenging landscapes.

The evening begins when doors open for a reception at 5:30 PM, followed by the film screening at 6:30 PM. Light fare and beverages will be served throughout the evening. Please kindly RSVP here to secure your spot as we celebrate architectural resilience together.

Alumni News

Isabella Willinger

In 2014, ADFF presented Isabella Willinger’s first feature-length film, Away from All Suns. It's a remarkable portrait of an artist community embedded within a modernist housing project in Moscow.

Willinger's latest film, her new film “No Mercy,” which has been making headlines at festivals, examines the 'female gaze.' Its radical cinematic manifesto showcases some of the fiercest female filmmakers around the world, exploring gender, authorship, and rebellion.

As ADFF looks ahead to the upcoming season, we anticipate a strong presence of films that foreground women’s voices within the architecture and design profession. Stay tuned.

This is a new series bringing you behind the films, featuring conversations with directors, architects, and collaborators from across last season’s festival. From reflections on process to stories that didn’t make it into the final cut, these are the voices that shape the work beyond the screen.

Stay tuned as we revisit the films through the people who made them.

This week's highlight is on Erick Sommerfeld and the Building on the Edge team!

Emma Bergman, Sam Dembling, Reeta Gyamiani

A special shout-out to Emma Bergman (no relation to ADFF Director Kyle Bergman), who has been an incredible Festival Manager for ADFF over the past several years, while also completing their MFA at Art Institute of Chicago.

Emma has been a huge part of what makes ADFF run so smoothly, bringing thoughtfulness, energy, and a steady hand to everything they do. They're now heading to a full-time role at the Hyde Park Art Center. We’ll miss them, but know they're going to do great things.
