Portraits of Change: 25 years of Mongolian Transformation

Portraits of Change is a project that explores the transformation in Mongolia resulting from the collapse of socialism there, the transition period that followed, and the market economy that emerged. At the heart of the project is a portrayal of the sociological, economic, and environmental changes that swept the country during this time of historic change. It provides snapshots of the past, present, and future of Mongolia. The author will discuss what he has learned for the creation of this book and what future changes he sees.

DR. SAHA MEYANATHAN has worked for more than 30 years in the field of development. He has taught, published, and practiced development, and he has been associated with Mongolia for over ten years. Saha worked at the World Bank for twenty years and was country manager for the World Bank in Mongolia for six years (2001-2006). He has a PhD in development economics from Stanford University and now works on social projects. In 2006, he was awarded the Order of the Polar Star, Mongolia's highest national honor for foreign nationals.
