ACMS SPEAKER SERIES
Looting and Climate Change Threats to Mongolian Archaeology and Cultural Heritage
Where: American Corner, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
When: Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Both looting and shifting climate norms have a long history in Mongolia, as in many regions of the world. However, there is increasing evidence that both are impacting Mongolian archaeological sites and cultural heritage at unprecedented levels. Neither looting nor climate change are simple issues with easy solutions or goals that are applicable in every case. This presentation will discuss what the impacts of climate change and looting are on the archaeology of Mongolia today, as well as steps being taken to protect Mongolia’s priceless cultural heritage from these threats.
