Thank you for attending CityTalk! Development without Displacement: A New Model for Equitable Transit-Oriented Affordable Housing On November 13, 2025, CUI hosted a CityTalk event in collaboration with the Canadian Alliance for Transit-Connected Housing.
This event discussed traditional transit-oriented development (TOD), and the risk of TOD making housing affordability worse in cities across Canada. Host Mary Rowe sat down with Dina Graser, Director of the Canadian Alliance for Transit-Connected Housing (CATCH), Ray Sullivan, Executive Director of the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association, and Lisa Ker, Executive Director of the Canadian Housing Transformation Centre. Together, the group unpacked why transit-oriented development can be problematic and explored the new approach being created by CATCH, including: How the economics of transit-oriented development create barriers to the preservation and development of affordable housing The challenges faced by the nonprofit housing sector to access flexible, affordable capital New financing models that are emerging to help How new approaches can help prevent displacement
We received many questions related to CATCH and TOD, and encourage any attendees with remaining questions to sign up for the CATCH newsletter for updates on the program.
We additionally wanted to provide you with the recording of this event for your convenience.
We hope to see you next time on CityTalk Live.
Best,
The CityTalk Team
