CRIS Success Story: Municipal District of St Stephen

New Brunswick is already feeling the effects of climate change, with rising sea levels, intensifying storms, and rainfall increase shaping the landscape.

In 2023, the municipality of St Stephen faced a severe winter storm that caused significant damage to their Waterfront Trail, with erosion undermining trail stability, threatening public safety, and driving up repair costs.

Through the CRIS, the municipality was matched with CRIS Roster expert CIMA+, who provided an analysis of the climate hazards in the area and cost-effective options to increase the Waterfront Trail’s resilience. The report outlines ways to protect the beloved trail from flooding, erosion, and extreme weather.
