In 2025, the Village of Cumberland, a municipality of under 5,000 in B.C.'s Comox Valley, was one of the first communities to register for CRIS support to help build resilience into planned infrastructure upgrades. They were matched with Roster Experts KWL Engineering, who evaluated climate change hazards for proposed upgrades to the Cumberland Creek Dam.

“KWL understood our dam replacement as part of a larger system including watershed management, community resilience, and environmental protection. Their team integrated hydrology, climate science, engineering, and environmental assessment to produce insights none of us could achieve independently,” shared Jason Wallace, Manager of Municipal Projects. “The climate hazard assessment provided more than risk identification - it delivered a roadmap aligned with our community values and environmental commitments."

Now, the Village is receiving over $2,700,000 through the Strategic Priorities Fund to support the replacement of the No. 2 Dam and spillway. These upgrades will help support safe and reliable drinking water for the community for generations to come.
