You did us the honor of joining us for one of our Thanksgiving-related events this past November. (We did six events). Once again, thank you for joining us.
One of the key aspects of shifting our story around Thanksgiving, that is to say, of our relationship to our own origins as a country, our relationship to indigenous peoples, and our relationship to land and food is that it is all year round. It is not something we can do only in the month of November (Indigenous peoples month), just as shifting the patriarchy and strengthening women's role in society is not something we can only do in the month of March (women's history month, and International Women's Day).
Which is really quite a blessing. Trying to do everything all at once is so exhausting!
And it is part of why we are offering two upcoming courses to support your journey.
Later this March, we are offering a next-step course on Bridging and Revealing/Storytelling as it relates to Land Acknowledgements. Too often, land acknowledgments are tiny windows into a very significant change. But to make those changes possible, and to enable the land acknowledgment to have the powerful potential that really is possible, most leaders, innovators, and storytellers need to increase their capacity to engage in the act of creating meaningful and powerful bridges between the short-sentence of the land acknowledgment and what that could, possibly, mean for you and your organization/community.
Land Acknowledgements are part of renaming. And Renaming can be a powerful part of dismantling the doctrine of discovery. Or it can be ... blase, meaning-less, and not worth the time and effort and wordsmithing that so many organizations, trying to give signals of being "with it" and "good people", end up falling quite short.
This is a praxis-orientated course. At three sessions with one (optional) follow-up session, it is just big enough to go deeper and gain more skills, but not so big you have to rearrange your schedule in order to engage.
And this is a course orientated in an attitude of gratitude. We are not interested in the kind of a shame that takes you away from yourself and your community. We are very interested in deepening compassion, gratitude, and possibilities.
Like our other courses, we are doing this in a collaborative, cross-cultural dialogue. Krissy is bringing her vast experience as an educator and restorative practitioner, brilliance, stories, and understanding of organizational development and team dynamics. These inevitably compliment the theology, spirituality, history, sustainability, and ecosystem shifts that I bring. We like to think we are a rather magical partnership, and it is a partnership that brings something special, not always well defined, to every course and event we offer.
