Subject: New podcast epsd: On Time!

No, this is not about encouraging people to be "on time"... more like being "in the flow of embodied time." 🙂🙂🙃

You've probably heard a lot of talk about how disconnected humans have become from place/land/waters, and how that contributes to so many of our social and ecological dis-eases. It is quite well documented. Books, analysis, non-profits, and poetry abound.

Often missing form this is the recognition that in the separation of people from place, we have also separated people from time. In particular, from the way that time is embedded into place.

People are out-of-time, as well as being out-of-place. The two go together.

While scientific understanding of how time is embodied keeps growing, it is largely separated from this other form of time.

But in daily life, we remain attached to ways of engaging with time that are generally abstract. Numbers on your cell phone’s clock. Clocks that are largely totally disconnected from your own body, or from local ecosystems. The ongoing pressure to be "on time".... but not necessarily in time.

Unlike your heartbeat. Which, while steady, sometimes slows down, and sometimes speeds up. Your heart knows where it is - in your body. It keeps time. Literally it keeps the time, the rythym, of your life.

Our disconnection from this kind of embodied time contributes to a larger experience so many people these days have: that of being unmoored. Which is a lot about what this new podcast episode explores.

I gotta say, I never thought that I would engage as much with Time as much I do. I was the kid who really hated having to memorize dates at all in history. I’m not particularly skilled at “keeping time” (as in keeping a steady rhythm). Nor am I known for arriving “on time” (though I’ve improved greatly).

And yet my life path keeps taking me to work more deeply with time.

To begin to understand - and I am still just beginning - what it means re-member time and place.

Working with time differently infuses itself throughout our practices and our offerings. It's core to developing and continuing to offer circular calendars. To our work of ReMembering. To redefining progress and create future institutions. Even when I am doing 1-1 work and spiritual direction, my clients and I are working with time portals, opening and closing and re-directing; understanding and assessing; integrating and coming into profound-ness.

So I suppose it was just a matter of time (ahem) before I created this podcast episode on time. ✨💫💫

This episode is not a conversation, or even a story. It is more of an audio journey where we circle through and with time.

I’m connecting a lot of different dots that are often left unconnected. There’s a bit of flute music (mine) and a song at the end that two friends of mine recorded. It’s more contemplative than an essay.

Do give it a listen, and let me know what you think - about the content as well as the format, which has some new elements in it. And, of course, there is so much more to say - I didn’t even get into a whole theme that I’ve been developing around holidays as acupuncture points on society! This is definitely just a beginning.

Our Circular Time reflection class is still available. We have two more slots at the end of January (on the 27 and the 30), and you can join either one. Just sign up here.

And if you want to do the circular time calendar process but those slots don’t work for you, then let me know and we can arrange a 1-1 time for de-briefing your own calendar. :-) Both are great processes.

Enjoy!
