Hi Friend,
Kristine and I want to reach out to everyone who is a restorative practitioner, peacemaker/peacebuilder, Circle holder or a facilitator in a related field that is concerned with de/colonization and relationship with and between Native peoples.
If that's not you - feel free to disregard the rest of this email. Don't worry, I'll have more great content for you later. :-) :-)
We like the use of the phrase the First Harm, as does Edward Valandra, as a frame for colonization… we think it makes just SO much sense for restorative practitioners, who tend to frame things in terms of harms, intentions, and impacts, is not always easy.
It requires re-assessing what is meant by key values, such as "respect," "relationships", and "repair." It requires the capacity for honesty and self-compassion; for knowing that even when things feel (and actually are) unsettling, we can still be OK.
This coming Wednesday, Kristine and I are hosting a Circular Time session for Restorative Practitioners. We first wanted to do this on President's Day. Which we are… but that sold out, and so we opened a new session on Feb 22. We still have a few spots left! Do join us.
Circular Calendars are amazing ways to approach shifting our relationship to land, to time, and to what it means to hold and sit in circles. I would like to think that for people who host and facilitate circles of many kinds, Circular Time is not only a relatively easy practice to understand, it uplifts, encourages, deepens, and strengthens your pre-existing circle practices and your relationship to your land... just by engaging with time differently.
