Subject: Join me: Firehorse Midyear Reflection with Circular Time

Dear Friend,

Join us this coming Friday (July 31) for our "Firehorse Midyear Reflection" using our beloved Circular Time methodology!

Back in February, I talked about how in the Chinese zodiac, the Lunar New Year beckoned in the Year of the Fire Horse.

I don't know if I've seen a moment when, here in America, the name of a particular year in the Chinese zodiac resonates with so many people I know as has this one.

Maybe it's the strong interest in Eastern cosmovisions. Or maybe there is just something about the symbol of the “fire horse" that resonates with what a lot of people who otherwise are not necessarily working within East Asian lineages and/or cosmovisions are resonating with right now.

Regardless, as we come upon this mid-point of the 13-moon cycle—which is also Lamaas/"Grain Day", the midpoint between the Summer Solstice and the Fall Equinox, and also happens to be around my birthday (yes, I'm a total Leo!)—I am offering two dates for a mid-year review/reflection using our much-beloved Circular/Cyclical Time approach.

The first one is THIS COMING FRIDAY, July 31, at 1pm est.

If that date does not work for you, then the second date is August 7. You only need to come to one.

I'm doing this in part because we really need pause-and-reflect moments. Especially given how much is going on.

In the last few months, I’ve heard so many people who, perhaps by choice or perhaps by chance, have engaged in a major life-pivot, or where time is just galloping along, that it feels important to take a moment and say: ok, pause… what’s really going on here? What needs to shift?

We will send out a special 'summer worksheet' that is geared towards this year and this moment.

Finally - even if you can't come to our reflective space, I hope you do some quieter pause moments in the next few weeks. I know a lot has and is happening. And maybe it also feels like a lot has not happened - that's also important: the places where things have stayed stuck in a rut.

Wherever this year is taking you/unfolding within you, you have (some) agency in influencing the direction/emergence of where you want to be going as we turn towards Autumn, and the time of the long dark nights.

That too will come; this, too, will pass.

Many blessings on these turnings -

Sara Jolena

ps - you might notice that we changed up our image for this flier. That's because my dear friend and occasional student/client, artist David Zung, recently shared this new illustration that he was working on, and it is just so exquisite that I asked him if we could use it. He graciously agreed. I always want to promote David's work - he is an amazingly talented painter, illustrator, photographer and filmmaker who has taught at some of the best art institutions in New York City. If you want to purchase one of his limited edition prints of this full illustration, please do let us know!

pps. I'm preaching at the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson this Sunday (10 am) on "What are we Inheriting"—which is going to include looking at some of the complicated texts in Genesis about Jacob, grandson of Sarah, husband of Leah AND Rachel, and one of the much-lauded Patriarchs. And the kin/dom of heaven. Should be interesting. If you are around and interested in coming, the doors are open - this is an explicitly open and welcoming church.

I also want to invite you to join me in my new Substack newsletter! You can click here to join.
