“If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go."

"The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me, I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer, I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

-Psalm 91:9-11,14-16

CAMPFIRE THOUGHTS:
"Do It Scared"

How many times in our lives have we read these words:

"Do not be afraid."

Probably only a million, right? (Give or take.) It's encouragement from God that is repeated over and over again in the Bible.

But we all know that these words are easier said than done. With all that the world throws our way, it's often hard not to be afraid or fearful.

When we're facing circumstances that make us feel that way, I often think we find it easier to consider going to God AFTER we have faced whatever is making us afraid. But the truth is, Jesus is calling us to take refuge in Him WHILE we are scared and He will protect us.

When God calls us to do something, He asks us to be obedient, NOT fearless.

In the Bible, we see many times where followers of Jesus obeyed in the midst of feeling afraid or anxious. They didn't wait until they were feeling unafraid.

For example, in Acts 10 a Christian named Cornelius had a vision from the Lord. God commanded Cornelius to “summon a man named Simon Peter” (v. 5). An angel delivered this message, and the Bible tells us that “Cornelius stared at him in terror” (v. 4).  But when the angel left, Cornelius carried out exactly what the Lord had commanded.

We don’t know for sure, but I can only imagine that Cornelius must have been confused and anxious, unsure of how this plan of God's would all turn out. But something that stands out to me is that Cornelius didn’t ask questions. He just obeyed.

Has there been a time in your life when you felt like God was calling you to do something, but you were scared to do it?

I'm currently going through that right now. But what I’ve been learning is to obey the Lord and do it anyway.

I thought I had to do it without fear but something I have learned through reading about Cornelius is to Do It Scared,

Obedience > Fearlessness.

The ultimate example of this is Jesus. He faced the cross, anxious to the point of sweating drops of blood, but remained obedient to the end.

Because He did this, we can know that we are NEVER alone in any of our fears or anxieties.

So when you are afraid, run to the shelter of our Almighty God and trust the plans he has for you.

And just watch how the Lord will protect you and be with you every step of the way.

Prayer:

Lord, as we lean into you and the plans you have for us in this coming year. I pray that we learn how to be obedient even when we are scared and don’t have all the answers. Amen

Do it scared! Jesus is with you!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
Where Are We At?

We launched the "For Generations to Come" campaign in May, celebrating 60 years of camp and looking ahead to the next 60 years. So how are things looking 8 months later?

Short answer? They're looking really good.

Longer answer? God is good! Pledges continue to come in, a HUGE grant opportunity accelerated what we ever thought might be possible with this campaign, multiple large projects are complete and many more are in process, and the work continues as we invite more people to be a part of investing in camp to make it an even richer experience for this generation and those to come.

Here’s a snapshot of where things stand today:

MONEY RAISED:

  • Total Pledged: $4.7 million (out of our $7 million goal)

  • Amount Received: $3 million (including $1.5 million in grant funding)

PROJECTS COMPLETED:

  • Alpine Village - Includes the cabins and bathhouse for our 6th village cluster.

  • Villages Paving Project – Includes all gravel roads, parking, and paths to village clusters.

  • Villages Pathway Lighting – Includes trail lights from village clusters down to the devotion area.

PROJECTS IN PROGRESS:

  • Program Assistant Housing – Located above Alpine's bathhouse, we’re currently drywalling the 6-bedroom apartment that will house our program assistants during the school year.

  • Lakeview Springs Roads – Construction has begun on the main entry driveway, a new circular drive, and a 10-car parking lot at the Welcome Center

  • Lakeview Springs Utility Connections – We’re continuing our work with REMC to install trenches and transformers and will be connecting to the city sewer system soon!

PROJECTS ON DECK:

  • Camp Lakeview Rec Center – We have started the design process for this building and hope to begin construction within the next 12 months.

  • Lakeview Springs Restrooms – We are set to begin pouring concrete for the foundation for the restrooms in February.

  • Lakeview Springs Campground – Design work is underway for this project, with construction on the road, infrastructure, bathhouse building, and other elements of the campground expected to kick off this summer.

If you have been praying, made a pledge, helped volunteer, or the many other ways that people have been supporting the campaign, THANK YOU! The ministry and mission at camp remains strong because of the people behind it. We can't wait to see how God will use the projects made possible through this campaign to change lives and grow His church for generations to come!

INSIDER ACTION:
Pray for a Future Grant Opportunity

On Sunday, January 11 we submitted our application for a major grant opportunity - Phase 3 of the Lilly Endowment Inc. Capital Project Initiative for Residential Youth Camps. Check out what Frisbee has to say about this opportunity and how you can be praying for camp in the midst of it!

(Watch until the end to hear how many pages the grant request was and when we'll find out whether we received it or not!)

SUMMER STAFF CENTRAL:

20 More World-Changers Needed
(Help Us Fill the Gap)

Each year during recruiting season we step forth in faith to see who God calls to serve at camp in the summer. He always provides, but some years are more challenging than others to find the quantity of high-quality college-age staff that we need.

This is one of those years.

Our summer staff application numbers are currently significantly lower compared to an average year.  We could really use your help increasing that number by the end of February.

Specifically, we’re looking for 20 more applicants by the end of February (people who can help us build the kind of team that will make a world of difference for our campers.)

If you know someone who would thrive in serving, leading, and loving kids well, please share the opportunity—and help us find those incredible and essential people who help make camp unforgettable!

Helpful Things To Know:

  • Summer Staff Applicants should be at least a year out of high school (graduated in 2025).

  • We need applications for all roles - counselors, cooks, maintenance, media, high ropes, etc.

  • We will hire until our staff team is full, but if applicants are able to apply by February 18th that is most useful, as that is the date when we will make our initial hiring decisions for the current pool of applicants.

We love to talk! Reply to this email and share your thoughts.

You are loved in Christ.
