And other summer news and fun from camp

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

-Exodus 14:14

CAMPFIRE THOUGHTS:
"Be Still"

All winter long, I anticipate the coming of spring, warmer weather, and walks outside. Yet every year, spring seems to go by so fast.

At some point in the spring, without fail, l one day look up and actually notice all of the trees filled with leaves and the grass green again. And I take a deep sign. Spring. Finally.

And then the mad rush of life sneaks back in and I forget to be still and look up at the newness of life around me.

The Israelites also had a hard time being still.

In this text, they are standing at the Red Sea, after they have just fled from Egypt and under the oppression of Pharaoh. They come across this giant body of water, while Pharaoh and his army are chasing after the Israelites, and it is seeming like they are about to be taken back into captivity.

In the midst of the chaos and fear, they look to Moses, the one who led them out of Egypt and say, “It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” And Moses’ response to them?

He says, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

“Be still.” I can’t imagine they took that well. They think they are about to be recaptured by the Egyptians, thinking they need to be on the run and Moses tells to do the opposite and be still.

I can’t imagine we would take that well either when we are in the midst of chaos and the whirlwinds of life and told to be still and wait for the Lord.

But maybe that’s exactly what we need to do. Sometimes we need to quiet the noise in our lives to hear the voice of God.

In my life, May is one of the busier months of the year because there is so much to prep and plan for the summer. There seems to be an endless list of things to do, and the list never gets smaller. I never feel caught up or on top of my to-do list. And all the other areas of my life don’t take a pause during this time either. They continue to move forward, and I also have to find ways to balance caring for the people in my life.

But maybe, just maybe, taking time to simply be still, quiet the noise around us, and listen to the voice of God, is just what we need.

When our life is filled with so much noise, we miss the voice of God and the ways He is speaking into our lives. We tend to miss the big picture that even in the midst of chaos, it’s all about Him and He’s in control of it all. Especially when we don’t have it under control.

What a beautiful picture of grace. That even when the responsibilities never end, neither does our God. He stands right by our side and invites us to be still in Him.

May you find rest and stillness in Him.

Prayer: Lord, remind us that you are near and in control. Help us to be still and find our rest in you. Amen.

More Campers, More Room,
More Reasons to Celebrate!

This summer is already shaping up to be one for the Lakeview record books. Our week-long youth camp registrations have officially passed last summer’s entire summer total. Not just where we were at this point last year. The whole summer. Praise God!

That means more kids are packing their bags, heading to camp, making friends, singing songs, laughing hard, trying new things, and hearing the good news of Jesus in a place created just for them.

And here’s the even better news: there’s still room for more. For the first time, Lakeview is running full six-village clusters throughout the summer, thanks to the new Alpine Village. In real terms, that means 180 more opportunities for kids to come to camp, build friendships, grow in confidence, and hear about Jesus!

Check out which sessions still have openings, then help us spread the word to families who may still be looking for an unforgettable summer camp experience. We want as many kids as possible to experience the hope, power, and love of Jesus at camp!

So take a look at the open sessions, tell a friend, text a family, share the excitement, and help us fill those beds. Because every open spot is more than a number. It’s a kid who can grow in their faith, gain confidence, and find hope in the life-changing love of Christ at camp!

The Slide Must Go On:
A Slippery Piece of Lakeview History Is Getting Ready for Its Next Ride

Some Lakeview traditions are carefully planned. Others start with a tarp, a hill, and a whole lot of camper enthusiasm. This summer, one of camp’s most beloved traditions is getting ready for its next chapter as the Slip n Slide prepares to move and make room for the future Rec Center.

SAVE THE DATE:
Celebration Day Is Coming July 25

Lakeview Partners, this day is for you! Celebration Day is happening Saturday, July 25, and all Lakeview Partners are invited to come celebrate what God is doing through camp, enjoy time together at Lakeview, and take part in the ministry’s annual meeting.

Not a Lakeview Partner yet? This is a great time to become one. Lakeview Partners are any supporters who have given $100 or more in the past year.  As Lakeview Partners, you are voting members of Lakeview Ministries. Celebration Day is a free annual event just for our Lakeview Partners!

The main events for Celebration Day take place on Saturday, but Partners are welcome to turn it into a weekend by staying at camp through Sunday. This year’s annual meeting will include important ministry updates and several significant items related to Lakeview’s future structure and stewardship. More details will be shared soon, but Partners are encouraged to make plans now to attend and take part in this important day!

Cover Camp in Prayer This Summer

Friends, would you join us in praying for the mission and ministry of camp this summer? We know it is only in spite of our best efforts and because of God that camp is able to be the transformative experience it is to so many. Here are some specific ways you can be praying for this summer at camp:

  1. That campers and staff would be protected from serious injury or illness while experiencing camp.

  2. That the faith of campers would be ignited by all they hear and experience during their time at camp.

  3. For wisdom, endurance, and joy from God for the summer staff as they serve this ministry.

  4. That any obstacles or stumbling blocks for the ministry of camp would be removed so that the Gospel could be proclaimed and shared boldly.

  5. For the high school students volunteering at Junior Staff at camp, that they would be equipped and encouraged in their own faith to be future leaders in the Church.

  6. That above all, God would be glorified and kept as the "first thing" in the ministry and mission of camp.

PRE-SUMMER PARENT SURVEY:

Help Lakeview Grow in Faith Together

Parents of campers this summer, in case you missed the email, we’d love your help with a simple survey. Lakeview is partnering with a national initiative on Growing in Faith Together, a research project designed to help camps better support parents and families in faith growth at home.

If your child is registered for camp this summer, the survey asks about your family’s current faith practices and what you hope your camper will experience at Lakeview. At the end of the summer, participating families will also be invited to complete a short follow-up survey.

It’s a quick, meaningful way to help Lakeview continue growing as a ministry that serves campers and supports families beyond the week of camp. We would greatly appreciate it if you take the time to fill it out!

We love to talk! Reply to this email and share your thoughts.

You are loved in Christ.
