Greetings and welcome to our first edition of The Baltimore Beacon! Over the years the Baltimore Province has put out internal communications like Comment, The Horizon, and The Chronicle as well as external newsletters like OLPH Magazine and Plentiful Redemption. In this day of social media and digital communications we are now attempting simply to have one newsletter to send to our confreres as well as family, friends, and those who support the Redemptorists. As we begin anew, I once again ask all our confreres to send us articles and pictures to share about their ministry and their life.

“Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different.” (C.S. Lewis)

One day we will look back at 2020 and historically see what a difference this year has made in our lives. We have dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic and saw our world, our lives, our Church, forever changed. I, like many of you, long for the days before COVID-19. Those days probably are not coming back. Everything is different. We have learned to adapt to a world of social distancing, mask wearing, and hand sanitizing. We have learned to watch Mass and prayer services online. We have learned to celebrate and to grieve with fewer people around us. Everything is different. Yet one thing remains the same: God’s love and presence in our lives. “Your God is ever beside you - indeed, He is even within you.” (St. Alphonsus Liguori)

As we begin this newsletter afresh, my prayer is that in the articles and pictures you will see God’s presence in the lives of the Redemptorists and in the lives of those with whom we minister. These (and future) pages and pictures serve as reminders in this ever-changing world that we Redemptorists always strive to be witnesses of the Redeemer: in solidarity to a wounded world. May Our Mother of Perpetual Help continue to watch over our world during this time of pandemic. May the beginnings of this new communications from the Baltimore Province help you to see that our God is constantly beside us, indeed even within us.

Please also note that we began anew our audio podcasts starting today, September 21, in both English and Spanish. Those can be found on the homepage of our website. Please also remember we do weekly reflections on Sunday's gospel readings that post at 10 a.m. every Wednesday on Facebook and Youtube.

In the Spirit of the Redeemer,

Paul J. Borowski, C.Ss.R.
