Dear Friend
Here's an anonymous story:
When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.
I found out it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town.
I couldn’t change my town, so I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize that the only thing I can change is myself.
If I had changed myself long ago, I could have made an impact on my family.
My family and I could have made an impact on our town.
Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.
Goalcast explained it this way:
No matter where you come from, what you’ve been through, or where you’re going, there are certain things we all share as human beings. We all want to be loved and cared for. We all want to pursue our dreams and develop our potential. And perhaps most of all — whether we admit it or not — we all want to live in a better world.
The dividing line is not between those who want to change the world and those who do not — there is no one whose heart still pounds in their chest who can view the ravages of war, suffering and injustice without wishing that things could be different. The dividing line, then, is between the warriors of hope who believe that another world is both possible and necessary, and the many who have given up and abandoned this dream to the lures of cynism, distraction or despair.
Tomorrow is the first day of the next 64 years for Nigeria and you can make Nigeria a better place.
Let these quotes inspire you to change the world:
As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others. – Audrey Hepburn
At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve done with those accomplishments. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back. – Denzel Washington
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. – Margaret Mead
