Hi Friend
Most bloggers believe that to get traffic to their blog means, "drive" it from one place, over to your blog.
The place you drive it from is your traffic "source."
The place you drive it to is you own little old blog or website.
So, it's simple, eh?
If Facebook is your "source" then you just go to FB and update your status like this…
"I just wrote a new blog post. Here's the link."
People are then supposed to leave FB and run on over to check out your blog post.
Same thing for Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest… you name it.
Then there's SEO.
The point there is for people to search for key terms that are in your blog post.
If you wrote a blog post called "My favorite juicer"…
people are supposed to search for "juicer" on Google, and then Google points them to your blog by linking to it in the search results.
Right?
Anybody having any great luck with any of these "traffic driving" strategies?
Well, probably not, and it's not because you're doing anything wrong.
You're doing what everybody has told you to do.
And that's find, b/c that's the way it's always been.
Since the beginning of blogging, anyway.
But hey, nothing's forever, you know what I mean?
The car gets old, the food rots in the fridge and at some point, the honeymoon ends - for most people, anyway, but I've been lucky with that last one :)
So, here's the thing…
You can't count on driving people away from where they are, and over to your blog.
You can't just put up some keywords and expect to rank on the first page of google.
So what can you do?
Blogging has evolved.
The better way to get traffic today, is to take your blog to the people.
Fine where your folks hang out.
If it's Reddit, then take the key points to your latest blog post and talk about them in a sub-Reddit.
Or in a Google+ community.
Or a FB group, or…
well, you get the idea.
Let people know what you're doing, what you're talking about and why they should be begin to trust you and what you say.
Now they can stay where they are.
Maybe you can invite them onto your email list.
Eventually, they can visit your blog.
But even if they don't, you can bring your message and even your offers to them, where they are.
It's kind of like a blogging outreach program.
Stop sticking to your site and trying to figure out how to get people to it.
I mean, yeah, do some of that still.
But don't hang your hat on it.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
etc
Watcha think folks?
What's your big traffic strategy in these early days of the new year?
