Subject: is one word killing your results?

Hey Friend, 

Have you ever thought that maybe just ONE word in your ad copy might be hugely affecting your advertising results?

It can happen. But maybe not in the way you’d expect.

Let me explain :-)

A little while ago, I ran an ad online. The ad was supposed to be getting me leads for high-end coaching clients.

So, I ran this ad, and in the headline of the ad, one of the first words was, “Frustrated?”

Well, the response to the ad was incredible. I was getting like 150 calls per week from this one ad, and fielding them all myself.

However - I was incredibly “frustrated” myself! Why?

Because it wasn’t bringing me the people I was looking for. None of them were qualified to be my dream clients...or even to be “pretty good” clients.

They were all looking for easy outs and weren’t willing to put in any work, not to mention not having the resources to pay for my services.

So, I went back and changed the wording on my ad. Or, more specifically I should say I changed ONE word in my ad.

I changed the word “frustrated?” to “excited?”

Here’s what happened.

First, my calls went way down. In fact, I stared getting half the calls per week, that the other ad had been bringing in.

However.

I also started getting the right people calling in for appointments. These people were qualified!

So, the second thing that happened is, we ended up setting record for sales that quarter!

Just because of that one word.


So...

Here’s your action item for today:
  • Take a look at a piece of marketing you have out there that is not pulling in the results you’d hoped for. Take a look at the headline (at least).
  • Ask yourself: is this copy speaking to my ideal client - or is it just trying to get the most attention from the most people?
  • See if you can change a word or two to shift your language over to something that is attracting your dream clients, rather than time-wasters.

Because it’s not just time you’re wasting, of course, if you aren’t targeting the right people with your ads.

You’re also wasting a lot of money very directly, on ads that pull but don’t pay off in the long run.
