March 2017: Our High Desert Home
Hello dear friends

What an interesting - and busy - 2017 it has been so far. Spring / Autumn will soon be here, and i realise now that this is my first newsletter for the year! As always, I've been dancing on the threshold of change. Some changes have been entirely positive - such as finally relocating to New Mexico - and others have been very challenging, such as the unexpected passing of my husband Tim's Dad in January - only days after my dear friend Rachel's father also passed away. And all this within the first 2 weeks of returning to the USA after my long Australian tour. So as you can imagine, there hasn't been to much time to sit behind a computer and share my stories with you.
But here I am now, on a crisp, cold, New Mexico night, sitting at my very own desk in the sweetest little 1930's adobe cottage in Santa Fe that just happened to come up for rent exactly when we needed it. The Universe is kind to me that way.

Those of you who have been reading my newsletters for a while might be surprised that we settled in Santa Fe instead of Taos, (a gorgeous town at the base of the mountains about 1 1/2 hours from here) as I had previously intended. Well, I guess I was just following the energetic flow. We were actually driving on our way from Oregon to New Mexico ( a many days drive), when we received the news of Tim's Dad's death, so of course we diverted our journey and made our way to the Wild West town of Winnemucca in Northern Nevada, where Tim's Dad was living on the family ranch. It is harsh land, but beautiful, as the panorama I took from one of my daily hikes there shows.

The week we had there was a deeply challenging time. We grieved, took care of arrangements, and did our best to put things in order. It was during that time that this little home became available, and I somehow knew it was meant for us. With all the upheaval that we had experienced, I knew that we needed to settle into somewhere quick smart. So I took a leap and applied for it sight unseen. We then continued on our trajectory to New Mexico - passing through the epic Winter landscapes of the Southwest USA, finally reaching Santa Fe, picking up keys, and as excited as children, entering our new home.
It is just as we'd hoped. Humble, but full of charm. The realtor told us that the walls of the house were built from the soil excavated when the basement was dug. How lovely to actually be surrounded by the very Earth of this land! I guess in days of yore, that was always how houses were built - using the wood, or stones, or clay that the land the house was to sit on offered. How very grounding.

As I've mentioned before, we live pretty simply. We don't have much 'stuff' so it only took us a day to unpack and settle in. Now I'm just enjoying refining, picking up a piece of thrift store furniture here and there, delighting in the simple things like cooking in our own kitchen and sleeping in our own bed once more.

I've included a few photos of the house to share with you.
And I'm thoroughly enjoying exploring the beautiful old city of Santa Fe - the USA's oldest Capital City. It was settled by Spanish explorers in 1610, and retains much of the charm or that era. It has a strong connection with the arts - links to famous artists such as Georgia O'Keefe - and also a thriving, slightly underground, modern art scene.

And the indigenous presence here is strong and vibrant. I look forward to having the opportunity to learn some of the ancient ways of the original people of this land.

And now that I'm here, I'm relieved that I'm not an extra hour and a half away from an airport! I've been here less than 3 weeks, and have already undertaken one brief interstate tour (to the excellent Women Of Wisdom Conference in Seattle last weekend). And I have lots and lots and lots more travel to come this year.
Tomorrow we head back to Winnemucca for Tim's Dad's (belated, due to interstate family) memorial this weekend. We will be passing through Salt Lake City on Thursday, and some wonderful local women are kindly hosting a House Concert for us. (Details are below, or send me an email if you are interested in coming along) .

Then it's off to Minnesota in a few weeks for the Paganicon gathering, followed by a tour of North Carolina and Florida in April, before heading to Melbourne Australia (via Las Vegas) for a series of shows.

And in between tours? Well, I have lots of plans for the year. I've begun work again on my 'Persephone' album - a collaboration with my friend Elissa Goodrich (yes I know we have been working on this for years, but it will be worth the wait when we release it later this year!)
I also plan to present another Lunar Magic 5 Week Online Course in June, and hopefully a mythology course as well. More on that in my next newsletter. And very importantly, I'll be reviving my spirit and filling my cup by spending lots of time in the beautiful Nature that surrounds Santa Fe.

Yesterday I took a hike up into the mountains - less than 15 minutes from my home - and connected with the High Desert Wilderness. With Santa Fe sitting at 7000 ft elevation, and the surrounding mountains even higher, i could certainly feel my lungs working overtime. But how beautiful to breathe in the icy cold, crystal clear thin air of this extraordinary place. I feel free, and alive, and, well, relieved!

Thanks all for sharing in my journey. Please take a look at my list of upcoming shows. I may be in your neighbourhood.

And don't forget that, if you can't make it to a gig, all of my albums are available on line (as Mp3 downloads, or physical Cds). Just follow this link to the online store CD BABY

With Love and Magic
