CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY "STALLED" IN SENATE JUDICARY!

The Tennessee Firearms Association's "Constitutional Carry" (SB1483 Green - HB1748 Mattheny) was stalled this week when two Senators, John Stevens and Todd Gardenhire, failed to vote in accordance with information provided to TFA.   John Stevens had personally assured one of TFA's directors that he would vote "yes" on the bill but, without any prior warning or notice, he voted "no" on the bill.  Todd Gardenhire, who was expected to vote "yes" on the bill apparently received "visitors" from the Governor prior to the hearings and, again without notice, changed from an expected "yes" to a "pass."

At this point, the bill has a 4-4-1 vote and could be placed back on notice in the committee if any one of the 5 legislators who did not vote for the bill signed a letter stating that they wanted it back in the committee for a vote.

Everyone is encouraged to contact Senator Kelsey's office and request that he use his powers as committee chairman to put the bill back on the calendar and that he personally speak with John Stevens and Todd Gardenhire about the importance of doing what you had promised to do. His contact information is:

Nashville, TN 37243
Phone: (615) 741-3036
Fax: (615) 253-0266

While John Stevens has been quite (apparently) on why he pulled his stunt, Todd Gardenhire has not.  He has claimed that it was a bad bill. He has claimed that he did not tell Senator Mark Green that he would vote for the bill.

You can read Todd Gardenhire's "excuses" for rejecting the 2nd Amendment in the Times Free Press report.  In addition, you can listen to his excuses on a radio broadcast on Chattanooga's AM1240 (interview about 20 minute mark).

Contact John Stevens and Todd Gardenhire and let them know you are frustrated with their shenanigans and that truth matters!

On the House side, HB1748 was expected to be heard in the House Civil Subcommittee.  After the shenanigans of John Stevens and Todd Gardenhire, however, the bill was taken off notice and will be held pending resolution of the bill's status in the senate.

It is important that you take the time to call your House and Senate Members and insist that they immediately co-sponsor this legislation - HB1748 and SB1483Alert your legislators that you want the bill as filed by the sponsors and without the committee amendments that put this process back under the control of the Tennessee Department of Safety.

If you don't know your House or Senate Member's name or contact information you can get it at this Legislative lookup page.

Legislative Status Report
The table below contains a list of legislation that TFA is tracking. This is not the entire list but only those bills which have had activity in the last 7 days.

The bills marked in Green are supported by TFA, those in Blue are being watched but TFA has not taken a position, and those in Red are opposed at this time as written.

Please review these bills carefully.  Feel free to go to the TFA Facebook group and ask questions or advocate for or against the bills you like.

Make the time to communicate with your legislators. Call them and ask questions.  Ask them to sponsor bills you like or appose the ones that you think are not constitutionally sound or, if sound, good public policy.

If you do not already know your legislators or have their phone and email numbers handy, you can get this information on the Legislature's "Find my Legislator" page.
