Las Vegas History Series –
Treasure Island Hotel & Casino
There are some people who refer to it as TI. On October 27, 1993, the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino opened under the direction of Steve Wynn and Mirage Resorts. 24 years later, the hotel is a nice affordable place for tourists and business people to stay at. People can easily walk to the Mirage right next door or Harrah’s Las Vegas, Venetian, The Palazzo and Wynn on the other side of the street. It has a great location.

Today, it is owned by Phil Ruffin. The Las Vegas Strip is mostly composed of hotels and resorts that are owned by a few companies that include Caesars Palace, MGM, Sands and Wynn. However, Treasure Island’s owner Phil Ruffin does not own any of the other resorts on the strip.

Focusing on some of the collectibles from the resort itself, the Treasure Island dice have the signature TI Logo on them. You can see them below:

Additionally, some of the early chips from Treasure Island have parrots dressed up as pirates. The other side has the signature pirate ship. See an example below:
In the world of pop culture, Treasure Island has been featured in a variety of movies and TV shows. In the film Miss Congeniality 2 starring Sandra Bullock, a scene took place in the waters where the pirate show occurred in the past. Though there is no more pirate show today, people can still take a picture in front of the pirate ships that are still on display in the waters outside one of the entrances. Scenes from the hit NBC TV show Las Vegas were also filmed there.

The resort has many great eating attractions. However, if you are looking for entertainment while eating some great BBQ, are all about the saloon scene and want a true cowboy country feel, then Giley’s is the place for you. The establishment even provides free line dancing lessons.

When it comes to the gambling, Treasure Island is one of the few places on the strip where a person can find a $5 blackjack table at all hours of the day. Many of the resorts have minimum blackjack bets of $10 and above. If you are someone who loves blackjack and are on a budget, this is the place for you.

The word pirates no doubt comes to mind when we think of Treasure Island. If you are someone who knows the pirate’s life is for you, then Treasure Island is your place on the Las Vegas strip.
