"The SFMA networking socials are an excellent way to meet people from other industries and explore opportunities within the manufacturing world of South Florida."  Jay Doobrow, Packaging Corp. of America

Amazon Hose & Rubber Co. - Rubber hoses made back in the early 1900s were comprised of pure gum rubber tapped from the Amazonian trees, which often grow more than 100 feet high. The original source for most of this quality gum rubber was the Amazon River Basin of South America from which Amazon Hose & Rubber Founder Harry E. Jacoby adopted the name “Amazon.”

From the Chicago location, business grew to include expanded service and product distribution at locations in Miami and Tampa during the 1940s and early ’50s. Surviving World War II, Amazon Hose & Rubber emerged with a broad range of hoses and tubing made of quality synthetic materials. Each location continues in the tradition of quality service and products — “an inch or a mile.”

In 1981, Amazon Hose & Rubber opened its Orlando location serving the growing Central Florida area with walk-in service. Each location maintains a comprehensive stock of hoses, tubing, fittings and couplings for industrial and hydraulic applications. In 2017, they expanded into South Orlando and opened the first Continental Hose Service Center.

Every day, hundreds of thousands of jobs in manufacturing go unfilled due to a lack of skill. Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturing’s workforce and to improve the image of manufacturing. Manufacturing Day occurs on the first Friday in October — this year Manufacturing Day is Oct 6, 2017.

While Manufacturing Day is officially Oct. 6, local manufacturers and SFMA will be planning events throughout October – plant tours, legislator visits, talks at schools plus more. Call the SFMA office or write or to set up a tour or legislator visit. As events are planned they should be registered on the site and can be marked as public or invitation-only events. For the past 2 years Florida has led the nation in number of Manufacturing Day (month) events. We want to keep that streak going so let’s get planning.

Since 2012, Florida’s Governor has designated the entire month of October as Manufacturing Month. Please think about hosting a tour for students or fellow manufacturers or local legislators. Contact SFMA for help.

  • Miami-Dade, Pinellas and Orange counties contributed more than 30,000 jobs each, while Broward, Hillsborough, Duval and Brevard counties contributed more than 20,000 jobs each. Together these seven counties accounted for 56.6 percent of manufacturing jobs.
  • The average annual wage in manufacturing is $57,824 for the 2016 calendar year, making manufacturing the third highest paying sector in the state, behind Information and Financial Activities.
  • Within the manufacturing sector, occupations with the most employment were: team assemblers, first-line supervisors of production and operation workers, packaging and filling machine operators and tenders, and electrical and electronic equipment assemblers.
