Yogananda's India
Becoming Yogananda

September 2016 Newsletter

Dear one,
member of Yogananda's extended spiritual family,

On this auspicious day commemorating Lahiri Mahasaya's birthday, we are pleased to share a sample of "Amar Puja Shristi Chhara," a Bengali chant it is said he composed and used to often sing. It will be part of our movie in some form.
Here you can listen to an excerpt of this chant, recorded by Hélène just for you!

We are thrilled to share that Swami Nirvanananda has composed an original, inspired song for Yogananda's India.  It is so beautiful and touching that we will use it for our main movie theme. It combines parts of two of Paramahansa Yogananda's poems with a divine melody. The final version of this song with additional instruments will be recorded soon, but you can listen to an excerpt of the work in progress now:

Yogananda's India will also serve as a biography for Lahiri Mahasaya and Sri Yukteswar. We are working at enhancing archival, historical photos related to their lives and residences that will be incorporated in the documentary.
In this month's newsletter we are presenting a couple of these historical photos of India, along with a little excerpt of Lahiri Mahasaya's life.
Enjoy!

In His joyful service,

Ron & Hélène
When Shyamacharan Lahiri was transferred to Ranikhet by the British military in 1868, he traveled by train and by ekka, a small one-horse carriage, to make the journey from Benares.
At Ranikhet, Lahiri Mahasaya's assignment was to supervise
a road-building crew. Eager to meet holy men said to live in the area, he was referred to a great yogi by one of his workers.
Thank you for your interest.
We have been blessed with the inspiration and guidance to create Yogananda's India, a documentary on Yogananda's early years in India with insights into the culture and spiritual masters that influenced and supported him to become one of the greatest saints of the last century.

"My worship is a rare worship
I no longer sprinkle Ganga water
My worship is a rare worship.
I do not need any fruits or flowers
I have lost all my utensils of worship
I do not need any fruits or flowers
I have lost all my utensils of worship
I have forgotten Shiva, Kali and Tara
I have forgotten Shiva, Kali and Tara
I have drowned in the Almighty Father.
My worship is a rare worship
I no longer sprinkle Ganga water
My worship is a rare worship.
I have forgotten male and female deities
I am absorbed in my indwelling Soul
I have forgotten male and female deities
I am one with my indwelling Self
Attached and engrossed in Trinity
Attached and engrossed in Trinity
I have dived deep in my spinal canal
My body-sense is gone, I am in Joy
I worship my body with my divine power."
