Subject: The Gift of Compassion

View this email online if it doesn't display correctly

Dear Friends,

Join us for worship this coming Sunday at 9:30 a.m. as we celebrate a value that is under attack in our world today, yet consistently flows from the heart of Jesus:

Compassion.

When the hungry crowds ambush Jesus, the disciples say, "Send the crowds away."

Jesus says, "They need not go away."

Life gets overwhelming. But we need not run from God. God is here to strengthen us, and bless us with the powerful gift of compassion. God's compassion for us! God's compassion flowing through us to others.

With compassion, everything shifts. Fear can be overcome, healing and connection begin. And hungry people get fed. (Matthew 14)

Join us this Sunday!

GATHERING OPPORTUNITIES
Looking for inspirational stories of Pilgrim's impact in and around the Community! Amy Truelsen, the editor of our newsletter Pilgrim's Progress, is looking for story ideas to showcase the impact of our community programming. If you have an idea or a story to share with her, please email: amy.lind@mac.com and it will be considered for inclusion in the next newsletter!

The Altar Flowers Sunday are given in celebration of Valerie Rae Carlson’s 13th birthday.

It's Block Party Season! Each fall, Pilgrim throws a unifying party for our church, school, school alumni, hot meals guests, and neighbors. Each year we do some things the same, but we also innovate a little bit each year, depending on the ideas and gifts of those involved. It is an opportunity to highlight the amazing community we have at Pilgrim, and is a wonderful embodiment of our mission to gather, prepare, and send!
This year we will be celebrating on Sunday, September 17th. Please contact Sarah Lau if you are interested in helping at sarahlau@lau.com We hope you'll join us!

The Score Big for Pilgrim party was a great success thanks to the generosity of all of you! Some parties still have spots available, and we would love your help in selling them out. Pub2Pitch: Join some awesome dad's for tailgating and seats at the Chicago Fire game on August 19th hosted by Carl Doerfler, Jim Volkens, Clay Dickerson, and Rob Anstee. $100/person - only TWO spots left.
