WALK-A-THON to Reach El Salvador
You can change lives here and around the world! Join us in a fun 3 mile walk/run in Chicago to send a mission team 2,825 miles to Central America! Please sponsor walkers who are raising funds for the travel costs and materials to build houses, churches, distribute medicine and feed refugees this summer! Sunday, May 17th at 7:45 a.m. we meet at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on 4300 N. Winchester Ave, Chicago, IL 60613 (1 block south of Montrose, 1 block east of Damen.  We’ll be walking to Welles Park, circling it twice, and then heading back to Pilgrim for a celebration! ELCA National Bishop Visits Pilgrim
Please join us on Wednesday, May 13th at 10:10 a.m. for a special school chapel service as we welcome Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton to Pilgrim! Bishop Eaton was elected as the ELCA’s fourth presiding bishop at the 2013 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, and is the first female Bishop in our history.  Eaton earned a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.   Eaton’s husband, the Rev. T. Conrad Selnick, an Episcopal priest, is vice president for advancement and church relations at Bexley Seabury Federation. They are parents of two adult children, Rebeckah and Susannah.  She’s been featured in Time Magazine, the Huffington Post, and is an important voice as we shape our witness in an increasingly challenging ministry environment.

“We don’t disengage from the world,” Bishop Eaton has said.  “As a church called to witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we must continue to listen deeply, to speak out about racial equity and inclusion, to respect and uplift the dignity and humanity of every person and to join with others in organizing for change.”

Please consider coming to meet Bishop Eaton and encourage her as she represents the over 4 million members of the ELCA!

Save the Date and Get Involved!
Save the Date! Pilgrim's annual block party will be on Sunday, September 13th. We are already getting ready for food, fun and fellowship!  We are specifically looking for key leaders in organizing activities, kitchen coordination, marketing and outreach, and logistics.  We are also looking for someone to design a flyer. If you would like to help out, please contact Shellie Riedle Volkens at shellieriedle@yahoo.com.

New Member Classes
What does ‘Lutheran’ mean?  How can Pilgrim help me and my family grow in faith? What does it mean to become a member of Pilgrim?  If you're at all curious about any of these questions, please  explore with us. Membership is done by attending our two-part New Members class.  The next meeting - PART I will be on Thursday evening, May 28th, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Part II is Saturday, May 30th from 11 a.m. to noon. People interested in participating in these classes can participate in any order. Both Part I and Part II are offered each month (so for example, you could attend Part II this month, and Part I next month). You may RSVP to Lindsay in the Church Office at churchoffice.pilgrim@gmail.com
Geraniums for Pentecost
Help decorate the altar on Sunday, May 24th by bringing red geraniums to church.  The flowers will later be planted in the church garden for all to enjoy.  If anyone would like to volunteer to do the planting,  contact Chris Wallis (cewallis1949@yahoo.com).  This is a great family activity!

41 and counting!
Pilgrim Lutheran School is extremely blessed to have received our 41st consecutive grant from the Sulzer Family Foundation.  The foundation, which aims to support worthy causes in the local area,  was founded by the heirs of Conrad Sulzer who was the first settler of the Ravenswood community.  This school year Pilgrim received $2,500 which is being used to support our special education program.  Pilgrim extends a huge THANK YOU to the Sulzer Family Foundation.
Hot Meals
Most of the ten teams are well-staffed, but the need for substitutes is always true.  Contact Janet Taylor if you are interested in being a substitute or would like to be in charge of keeping the pantry well-supplied.  Contact Janet Taylor at jkstay@aol.com or (773) 777-4052

Hot Meals Plus
For eight weeks now a hot Saturday noon meal has been delivered to some shut-ins. Please contact Janet Taylor or Jackie Mokszycki with names of shut-ins. Also we would like to add more drivers to our list of delivery people. Delivery takes less than two hours. If you would like more information, to submit the name of a shut-in or if you would like to sign up to be a driver, please contact Jackie Mokszycki at jmokszycki@gmail.com.

Pump Up Pilgrim’s Play Space
Fantastic News! We’ve reached our online $9,000 goal!!  We send a warm thank you to all of the supporters online, at the auction, and to those who have contributed in the office. Now that we’ve reached our first goal, we’d like to raise additional money towards our “stretch” goals. We need to improve the little kids’ play deck (preschool through 2nd grade)  on top of the annex too. Our next stretch goal is an additional $6,000.  Thanks again so much to everyone who has given so abundantly and generously!
