Pilgrim's Block Party Sept. 14, 2014
Bring your friends and come join the fun!  Outdoor church service at 10:00, block party to follow at 11:30.  Petting Zoo, Quilt Show, Bingo!  Watch here for more information over the next coming weeks.
8 a.m. Service- Familiar and Reflective
The worship committee has spent some time over the summer seeking feedback, discussing, and praying inspired by the question:  “How might the Spirit want to shape our 8 am service in a distinctive and faithful way?”  These discussions have led us to create an 8 a.m. service starting on September 7th that is both reflective in nature and familiar in its use of music.  We are also exploring providing a nursery for that service, as we have many young families that are attracted to the hour of the service.
We encourage you to come and experience the 8 a.m service this fall!
P.S. We will not be having an 8 a.m. service on Sunday, September 14th.  We will have only one outdoor service that day at 10 a.m., as we will begin the block party immediately afterward!  The 8 a.m. service will continue every Sunday the following week, September 21st.

Giving a Gift to All of our Children Thank you to those who may have contributed to the Dave Maring School Endowment Fund. This Congregation has established this fund with a vision that when fully funded, income from the Fund is going to provide scholarship aid and seed money for new programs at Pilgrim. We currently have a matching grant challenge from a member of the congregation. We need to raise $25,000 and the donor will match it. Please help if you can. El Salvador Team is Back!

What a tremendous blessing it was to be with 19 pilgrimites on a mission trip in El Salvador... they were all so amazing to work with and learn from.  If you see any of the Baslers, or Jean Carroll, Anne Meyers, Andrea Preston, Scott Russell, Ralph Maffucci, and Cheryl and Tonya Saiki. Principal Chris Comella and Karen Huelskoetter, please ask them about their trip!  Thanks again to the Pilgrim's Capital Campaign Mission Gifts for the generous grants of $10,000 to build Lord of Life Colon, $1,500 to the Hope House Clinic, and $1000 to the Bread of Life Pupuseria Restaurant...was it EVER fun to distribute those checks and see those projects impacting so many hundreds of people!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS SUNDAY
Our Prayer for Sunday
God of all peoples, your arms reach out to embrace all those who call upon you. Teach us as disciples of your Son to love the world with compassion and constancy, that your name may be known throughout the earth, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Isaiah 56:1, 6–8;
The prophet calls upon Israel to do justice in view of God’s imminent intervention to save. Righteousness and obedience define who belongs to the Israelite community—not race, nationality, or any other category.

The second reading is Romans 11:1–2a, 29–32;
God has not rejected Israel. Rather, the call and gifts of God are irrevocable, so that while all have been disobedient, God has mercy upon all.

The Gospel reading is Matthew 15:[10–20] 21–28;
Jesus teaches his disciples that true purity is a matter of the heart rather than outward religious observances. Almost immediately, this teaching is tested when a woman considered to be pagan and unclean approaches him for help.
