Subject: Pilgrim is Seeing Red

Pilgrim Announcements
October 25th, 2015

Dear Friends,

Join us this Sunday for worship as we celebrate Reformation Sunday and the Confirmation of three tremendous young people: Erin, Hayden, and Joe.

The title of this email, "Seeing Red" is inspired by the color of the day (red) and by the Gospel reading of the day, Mark 10:46-52, in which Jesus grants sight to a blind man.

Come be encouraged by some good news this weekend! Join us on Sunday at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.!

Candy Offering! This month, we are talking about how generous God is toward us in faith and in life.  When we realize how much we've been given, it's easy to consider giving to God and to others!  Some of us give 10% of our income, or a full tithe, to Pilgrim through our worship offerings. We invite our children to do the same thing this Halloween with their candy.  Kids, would you consider giving a tithe, or 10% of your candy, to the poor and to the guests of our Hot Meals program on Saturday?  Bring your "tithe", or 1 out of every 10 pieces of candy, (or more)  to Pilgrim church on Sunday, November 1st, (the morning after Halloween) and we will celebrate how many pieces we receive to share with the needy during our service on November 8th!

Moral Mondays Illinois Mass Mobilization
Monday, November 2nd at 10:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
James R. Thompson Center
100 W. Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60601
There are many of us concerned about the crisis for the people of Illinois by refusing to pay their fair share of taxes and demanding cuts that are destroying lives. While our lives are on the line, they’re feeling great and getting richer by the minute. It’s time to bring the crisis we are experiencing to their doorstep, to make them really feel it. Please join us for this mass mobilization and civil disobedience to shut it down. Stay tuned for information about the “it”, and plan to join us—and bring everyone who shares your values-on November 2nd.

First Sunday, Feed the Hungry
Did you know that on the first Sunday of each month, our ushers take a special collection of donations in support of local and world efforts to feed the hungry? Whether you want to support the Pilgrim Saturday Hotmeals program or one of several other worthy missions, you can join in. Next Sunday in worship, we invite you to use the special envelopes provided in each pew, check off one of the designated missions listed, enclose your donation of any amount, take the envelope with you when you go for communion and simply hand the envelope to the usher.

Welcome Ruth!
Join us this Sunday as we install Ruth Wasiukiewicz as our Business Manager! Originally from Chicago, she has served as the Township Clerk in Rockford, MI and the Deputy City Clerk in Berwyn, IL providing her with years of administrative and bookkeeping experience. She lives in Portage Park and has been receiving excellent training from our outgoing Business Manager, Lindsay Beveridge, over the past week and a half. We will say a special prayer of installation this coming Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service.
