GATHERING OPPORTUNITIES
Sunday we welcome Pastor James Lang as our visiting pastor.

Celebration of Rev. David Langseth’s 50th Anniversary of Ordination - Sunday, July 16th - Please join us for the a special celebration in honor of Pastor Kristian’s father-in-law, Pastor Anna-Kari’s father, David Langseth. Pastor Langseth served congregations in Boston, New York, and most recently in Schaumburg, IL. He will be preaching and the Langseth family will be hosting a brunch reception in his honor to follow the 9:30 a.m. service. Thank you to Pilgrim for helping to honor him and his ministry.

Sign up for Vacation Bible School - Our theme is “A Mighty Fortress” and will be the week of July 17-21. VBS is for kids ages 4 through Grade 5. Older kids, youth and adults are encouraged to volunteer as helpers. The more the merrier, it's fun for all of us! Registration for both students and volunteers is now open via a link on Pilgrim's website:      http://www.pilgrimchurchandschool.org/church/index.php
Questions? Contact Chris Wallis cewallis1949@yahoo.com

Vacation Bible School Volunteers needed - In addition to a number of positions for group leaders and helpers we need a leader for the Games portion of the program. This entails leading groups of kids through approximately 20 minute segments of active outdoor play. The curriculum includes suggested games or you can come up with your own activities. Please contact Chris cewallis1949@yahoo.com if interested. VBS is scheduled for the mornings of July 17-21.

Thank you from Mike Suhajda - “It was a pleasant surprise to be honored along with Mike Knuth at the June 4th service. I want to thank the congregation for their generous response to the appeal in my honor for funds to purchase new basketball uniforms. To date we have received $3,393.00 from church and school families!  God bless you all.”

Thank You from Michael Knuth - “Thank you for the generous outpouring of love I received at my retirement brunch and the school chapel service. I will always treasure the stories, conversations, photographs, videos and memories that came flooding back, and I am truly grateful for the many gifts which came my way. I look forward to a new phase in my ministry, and I know God will bless my efforts in the future as He has in the past.” In His service, Michael Knuth.

Commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation with a Tour of the LSTC Rare Book Collection - One way to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation is to schedule a tour of the
Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC, 1100 E. 55th St., Chicago, IL 60615) rare book collection for a group from our congregation. This collection features original copies of many of Luther’s most important writings (95 theses, Diet of Worms, Freedom of a Christian, 1522 translation of the NT, etc.). Tours take about 90 minutes and are free. To learn more or to schedule a tour, contact Ralph Klein, curator of rare books rklein@lstc.edu 773-238-1856.

The Score Big for Pilgrim party was a great success thanks to the generosity of all of you! Some parties still have spots available, and we would love your help in selling them out. They are always a fun time, and ALL of the proceeds go to Pilgrim. Here's a snapshot of the summer parties on the docket:

Pub2Pitch: Join some awesome dad's for tailgating and seats at the Chicago Fire game on August 19th hosted by Carl Doerfler, Jim Volkens, Clay Dickerson, and Rob Anstee. $100/person - only TWO spots left.

A note from Pastor Kristian - Anna-Kari and I are very thankful to visit the land of our ancestors. We are in Norway and Sweden with my sister and her family and my parents. We are experiencing things beyond what we could have ever hoped, planned, or prayed for. I had the privilege of singing and preaching (in English!) in the congregation in Langasjo, Sweden where my great grandfather and grandmother were baptized and confirmed. I return on July 11th, I look forward to reconnecting with you then!

Pastoral Care Note - For times such as this when Pastor Kristian is out of town, we are blessed with a network of lay leaders from Pilgrim and ordained ELCA Lutheran Pastors that are ready to provide pastoral care. If you would like a visit, please contact Care Ministry Co-Coordinators Claudia George claudia@outflux.net 503-544-6836 or Judy Daniel judithdaniel@sbcglobal.net 773-547-2956 and they will coordinate a lay or ordained visit. Thank you Judy and Claudia!
