Dear Friends,

Join us this Sunday at 9:30 AM as we celebrate our faith with former Pilgrim Pastor Ann Hicks.

There's a lot of talk about "the cloud" these days… But why don't we tap into a cloud that is thousands of years old:

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us... Hebrews 12:1

GATHERING OPPORTUNITIES
Today we welcome—the Rev. Ann Hicks as our guest preacher. Pastor Hicks is a retired ELCA pastor residing in the Edgewater neighborhood. She served as Pilgrim's associate pastor 1987-89. After serving four Chicago ELCA parishes, she remains very active as a member at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on Foster Ave.

Thank You Pilgrim from Refugee One—Next Sunday we will enjoy a word of thanks from Jennifer Stutheit, a former Pilgrim member, representing the wonderful work of Refugee One. Pilgrim recently granted a “Mission Gift” from the Growing Forward Capital Campaign to the work of Refugee One. Also, Pastor Kristian will be back in worship with us!

Celebrate Summer with an Outdoor Coffee Hour—Next Sunday following the 9:30 service, we will have an outdoor coffee hour! Thanks to the Volkens and Schwarz families for your hospitality!

Improvements Work on these projects should happen in August before the start of school and have minimal impact on Pilgrim’s daily operations. Many thanks to CLEF for continued support of the safety and well-being of our day school students!

Tending to our Souls, Wednesday, August 31st— We invite you to gather on Wednesday, August 31, at 7 PM at the church parlor for our initial conversation.  We are in a difficult and anxious moment in our nation's history. Amidst the violence, fear, and mistrust, how do we tend to our souls? And what can we do about the suffering we see in the world? Dr. Bianka Hardin and Pastor Johnson will be creating a time and space in late August for reflection and discussion on these two questions. Please stay tuned for more details. Our Bishop, Rev. Elizabeth Eaton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has issued a statement with her thoughts and some resources that can be found here: http://blogs.elca.org/advocacy/together-grieve-church-nation/

Discipleship Groups—Various Pilgrim members are forming discipleship groups to help people grow deeper in their faith and in what God is calling them to do. Take Jesus with you! This summer, we invite everyone from Pilgrim to participate in a fun, faith-filled project called “Jesus with Me”! Inspired by Ms. Huelskoetter’s “Flat Kid” project.
