Your 2017 Offering Envelopes—are in your mailboxes in the Narthex. We encourage you us use them, unless of course you have automatic withdrawals for your donations.

Altar Flowers—Have you ever wondered why we sometimes have fresh flower arrangements on the Altar? They are given in Memory of, or in Honor of or in Celebration of someone special in your life. Sign up sheets (through 2017) are on the bulletin board at the back of the Sanctuary and a pair of arrangements costs $30. Payment can be put in the offering to Pilgrim, with a note that it’s for flowers.

MOPS is an community support group for Mothers Of Preschoolers. The North Center group meets the first and third Thursday of each month at the Pilgrim parsonage (4332 N. Winchester). Doors open at 9am and childcare is provided until 11:45am. The next gathering will be Thursday, January 5, 2017. If you would like more information or to RSVP, please contact Tarah Dickerson at mopsnorthcenter@hotmail.com

PREPARE (GROWTH) OPPORTUNITIES
Pilgrim’s Progress is Returning! For the past 10 Years, Jeanne Valencia has been the editor of our monthly newsletter - Pilgrim's Progress. We thank her for the countless hours of work she's put in to write, photograph and edit stories of our impact and opportunities. We also thank the many of you who have provided content over the years and ask for your continued contributions as our new volunteer editor, Amy Truelsen, steps in to support publication in 2017 and onward. Please send Amy (amy.lind@mac.com) any stories, photos or updates for inclusion in the Winter 2017 edition by December 23rd.

Our Bookkeeper Opening has been filled! Linda Vaeth is a CPA, has decades of experience in bookkeeping and accounting, and is also active leader in her church. Her first day will be January 4th, 2017. An immense thank you to Interim Bookkeepers Lindsay Beveridge and Halley Williams for their valiant work during this time of transition.

Explore the Bible—Would you like to learn more about the Bible? Discuss spirituality and faith in a non-threatening, non-judgmental context? We invite you to join us on January 8th at 9:15 a.m. in Maring Hall as we read and discuss the Bible together… there is NO EXPERIENCE necessary.

New Member Classes—What does ‘Lutheran’ mean? How can Pilgrim help me and my family grow in faith? What does it mean to become a member of Pilgrim? If you’re at all curious about any of these questions, please contact the Church Office Administrator, Renee, at churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org

Prayer Time—We invite you to join us Saturday mornings starting on January 7th at 8:30 a.m. at the Parsonage for a time of prayer... it is so renewing!

Pilgrim School Gets into the Spirit of the Season
—During this Advent season of preparations, Pilgrim students have begun to learn songs and make Jesse Tree ornaments for our annual Christmas Service on Tuesday, December 20, 6:30 p.m.. If you would like to attend the “dress rehearsal” for the Christmas Service, join us at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19.

SENT TO SERVE
Thank You—to our Pilgrim Dads for the fantastic food and fellowship! Over $950 was raised for the Pilgrim School Technology Fund.

Thank You—to Shellie Riedle, Samantha Doerfler and everyone who participated in Coats Angels, giving 151 coats this year!

Thank You
—to everyone who has given to the Pilgrim Toy Drive. These will be shared with students at Pablo Casals Elementary School in Humbolt Park this Friday.

Hot Meals Coats
—Our guests could use warm coats, hats, and gloves. Gently used or new items for adults can be dropped off at the Pastor’s office, along with socks, underwear, and toiletries of all kinds.

Hot Meals Gifts—On Saturday, December 24th, for the 3rd straight year, our partners “Homeland Helpers” from Lane Tech College Prep will be sharing “Secret Santa” presents with our hot meals guests. Because the sign up to receive a gift is already over, and because we have new guests coming every week, Pastor will be using his discretionary fund to buy $10 gift cards to make sure each guest that comes that day will get a Christmas gift. If you would like to donate to the discretionary fund, please give online or use the giving envelopes located in each pew. Thank you!

Hot Meals Team 7—plans to serve a special meal on Saturday, December 24th, including a dessert buffet. You can help by donating a special dessert to be served to the clients. Please contact Cheryl Saiki at cgsaiki@sbcglobal.net or at 773-858-2081 to let her know what you will be contributing.

Mission Interpretation
—Don’t forget to check the latest memo posted on the Mission Bulletin Board at the back of the church. Also, take a look at earlier memos, collected in a notebook on the table in the narthex. Two items of interest include the memo dated 11/15/16 "Reflections from the Church on the Election" by Bishop Eaton and a statement from LIRS (The Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service) reaffirming the church's mission to protect and welcome refugees.

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
Lightning Appeal—On July 10th, 2016, our roof was struck by lightning, and we sustained over $12,000 in damage to our facility. We now need to invest $6,000 to install a proper lightning protection system with rods and surge protectors that will protect our many electronic devices, security equipment, and the building itself. If you would make an end-of-year contribution to this cause, please do so by writing a check to Pilgrim, and write “lightning” on the memo line. Thank you.

Gift Cards—We have added two cards to our list: Binny's Beverage Depot $25 and $100 and Hilton Business Gift Card (good on everything associated with Hilton Hotels and Resorts. We will be selling Sunday, Monday and Friday until the last week before Christmas Break. We will sell Dec 19-21st in the school office. Check out the flyers around Pilgrim, which show gift cards which have higher percentages for a short period of time. We order Monday mornings at 10 am. Please contact Anne Barsano cbarsano@aol.com 312-472-6037 with questions.

OpCIP finally has a program for ordering gift cards on your phone. The free APP is "Benefit Mobile" and the link is https://vimeo.com/187890613 Go to the site and select Pilgrim Lutheran to receive the profit. You have the choice of using your checking account or a credit card (% earned differs with payment method). The email shows you the cards they offer. We will still sell cards in the office as the profits are higher, but now you have options. Let’s raise funds without fundraising! Contact Anne Barsano cbarsano@aol.com or 773-472-6037.
