We are so excited for Christmas this year! Amid all the craziness and busyness, Christmas worship brings much need peace… light… hope… and joy to our hearts and to our homes.

Join us for Christmas Eve services this coming Sunday, December 24th! Services are at 10:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. (Family Candlelight), 7:30 p.m. (Candlelight), 11:00 p.m. (Candlelight)

Join us on Christmas morning, Monday, December 25th, for a special celebration at 9:30 a.m.

We also invite you to worship on New Year’s Eve, December 31st, with a traditional lessons and carols service at 8 a.m. and a creative lessons and carols service at 10:30 a.m., based on the beatitudes, and including a renewal of vows ceremony, followed by an optional potluck luncheon. Thank you to Jonathan and Collin for facilitating this day!

Lessons and Carols and Renewal of Vows - Sunday, December 31st - Join us Sunday, December 31st for a very special day of worship with Lessons and Carols at 8:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.  The 10:30 a.m. service will feature an opportunity for all couples to renew their marriage vows. Afterwards, there will be a joyful potluck reception! Thank you to Jonathan and Collin for helping coordinate this wonderful day!

Epiphany “3 Kings” Celebration - Sunday, January 14th - We invite all children and youth to help with a special procession and dramatic reading of the magi story. Please gather at the back of the Narthex. We will have a piñata and great fellowship to follow the 10:30 a.m. service.

New Member Exploration Classes - What does ‘Lutheran’ mean? How can Pilgrim help me and my family grow in faith? What does it mean to become a member of Pilgrim? If you’re at all curious about any of these questions, please consider attending an exploration class on January 15 or 22nd. Child care is provided throughout each class. Please contact our Church Office Administrator, Renee Stuedemann, at churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org to RSVP.

First Communion Class begins in February - We invite everyone who is in 2nd grade or older to participate in our upcoming First Communion Program, which will be beginning with an interest meeting on Wednesday, January 31st at 5:30 p.m. The interactive class (that is geared for adults as well as children and youth) is focused on helping us grow in our relationship with God. We will cover the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, the 10 commandments, and the meaning of the sacraments.

Invitation to Worship/Music Team - Attention all singers, instrumentalists, dramatically talented, poets, artists of every kind. We have openings available on our worship music team! We would love to have you join us! For more information, contact pastorkristian@pilgrimchicago.org

PREPARE (GROWTH) OPPORTUNITIES
Sunday School for the remainder of 2017 - There will be no Sunday School today or December 31st. Winter term starts Sunday, January 7th, at 9:15!

Pilgrim Lutheran School - Academic Excellence with a Heart! (www.pilgrimchicago.org) Preschool through 8th Grade. Pilgrim uses a “whole child” approach, and prides itself on a play-based preschool and kindergarten, high test scores and a 95% acceptance rate of graduates into competitive high schools. Women’s Bible Study - We will start the New Year on January 10th with studying The Apostles' Creed from the WELCA Gather magazine (the September, October and November issues). If you don’t subscribe, copies will be available. We gather at Renee Stuedemann’s home for light refreshments at 6:30 p.m. and begin at 7:00 p.m. To RSVP, or if you have questions, contact churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org  

Explore the Bible Class - Join us on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. starting on Sunday, January 14th for "Explore the Bible" Class. It is open to people of all backgrounds and levels of familiarity. We will meet in Maring Hall and continue exploring the basics of our Lutheran faith in this 500th Anniversary of the Reformation with Pastor Daniel Erlander's Book, "The Lutheran Way of Being Christian."

Prayer and Pancake Breakfast - We’re going to celebrate one of the best combinations on earth… prayer and pancakes!  Even if you have no experience praying, or have never been able to attend one of our prayer times, join us on Saturday, January 13th for a Prayer and Pancake Breakfast:  8:30 a.m. at the Parsonage (4332 N. Winchester Ave., Chicago, IL 60613)

Your 2018 Offering Envelopes - are in your mailboxes in the Narthex. We encourage you to use them, unless of course you have automatic withdrawals for your donations.

Thank You Everyone from Bob Hamilton for all your prayers for his recovery from 6 surgeries in 4 years. He continues to do better and better.

—to our Pilgrim Dads for the fantastic food and fellowship! We raised $785 for the Pilgrim School Technology Fund. We are grateful for the leadership of Pete Gillespie and Glenn Williams! 
—to Shellie Riedle, Samantha Doerfler and everyone who participated in Coats Angels, giving 115 coats and $1,500 in Gift Cards in December! A huge thank you to Lori Kraft-Shores for overseeing all this!
—to everyone who has given to the Pilgrim Toy Drive. We gave 232 wrapped Christmas presents to students at Pablo Casals Elementary School in Humbolt Park. Thanks to the 7th/8th graders and the whole Pilgrim Community!

Hot Meals Coats—Our guests could use warm coats, hats, and gloves. Gently used or new items for adults can be dropped off at the Pastor’s office. Also, socks, underwear, and toiletries of all kinds are so appreciated. Not only are these items appreciated, they love the fact that we care enough to collect these items.

Thank You to Second City Quilt Shop for their cookie drive for our Hot Meals guests. The homemade, delicious cookies were most appreciated.
FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
Cinco De Pilgrim Raffle Fundraising - Thank you for all your donations! With some last minute offerings, our total came to $25,350! WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!! We thank Tarah Dickerson for all her work to spearhead this raffle drive. God bless all of you!

HELP WANTED: Cinco de Pilgrim Volunteers! Help us plan an incredible spring party for the Pilgrim community this May - join the fiesta crew! We can’t pull off an evening like this without a LOT of help - there are jobs big and small, but this is definitely a TEAM effort. Questions or Ideas? email analisacaref@gmail.com
