Subject: It Never Gets Old

Pilgrim Announcements
May 3rd, 2015

Dear Friends,

I once asked the one of the best preachers I have heard, "What makes you such a good preacher?" And he replied without missing a beat, "Every week, I pray that God would give me yet another way to preach emphatically, creatively, and passionatley about Love. God's love is everything."

Come experience love that gives our souls rest, our relationships forgiveness, and our lives a brand new start. We also invite you to come in support of our teachers as we appreciate them as a part of National Teacher Appreciation Week. See you at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.

*SPECIAL REMINDER*
Starting on Sunday, May 24th, we will move to one service at 9:30 a.m. Our 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services resume in September.

ELCA National Bishop Visits Pilgrim
Please join us on Wednesday, May 13th at 10:10 a.m. for a special school chapel service as we welcome Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton to Pilgrim! Bishop Eaton was elected as the ELCA’s fourth presiding bishop at the 2013 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, and is the first female Bishop in our history.  Eaton earned a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.   Eaton’s husband, the Rev. T. Conrad Selnick, an Episcopal priest, is vice president for advancement and church relations at Bexley Seabury Federation. They are parents of two adult children, Rebeckah and Susannah.  She’s been featured in Time Magazine, the Huffington Post, and is an important voice as we shape our witness in an increasingly challenging ministry environment.

“We don’t disengage from the world,” Bishop Eaton has said.  “As a church called to witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we must continue to listen deeply, to speak out about racial equity and inclusion, to respect and uplift the dignity and humanity of every person and to join with others in organizing for change.”

Please consider coming to meet Bishop Eaton and encourage her as she represents the over 4 million members of the ELCA!

41 and counting!
Pilgrim Lutheran School is extremely blessed to have received our 41st consecutive grant from the Sulzer Family Foundation.  The foundation, which aims to support worthy causes in the local area,  was founded by the heirs of Conrad Sulzer who was the first settler of the Ravenswood community.  This school year Pilgrim received $2,500 which is being used to support our special education program.  Pilgrim extends a huge THANK YOU to the Sulzer Family Foundation.
Hot Meals PLUS is now in its fifth week.  The following appeal is not for more drivers (although we can always add to our list of possible drivers), but rather for names of SHUT-INS!  Think about your neighbors and acquaintances in the Pilgrim area - could someone use a hot meal delivered once a week (Saturday noon)?  Please call or e-mail either Jackie Mokszycki (773-677-0676)    jmokszycki@gmail.com or Janet Taylor(773-777-4052)  jkstay@aol.com

Pump Up Pilgrim’s Play Space
We’re heading into the home stretch on our crowd-funding push to Reinvent Pilgrim’s Play Lot.  Help us reach our goal of $9000! We’ll be able to make it happen with more donations. All amounts are welcome, but we’re really hoping 100 families could donate $100 each.  That would equal $10,000 and make all the difference!  We’re at 28 supporters and 40% funded this week.  Let’s raise that up to 100 supporters!

The site can be found HERE

We’ll use every dollar this summer to go to improving the lot for our children. But, if we don’t reach the $9000 goal, we won’t get a dime from this project and the pledges won’t be charged. Please spread the word and please consider a gift towards this important improvement. THANKS!!!
