Dear Friends,

In this Sunday's Gospel (Luke 21:5-19), in an anxious moment, the people came to Jesus, the prince of peace, and they received rest for their souls and strength for their journey.

Let us do the same. Join us in worship this Sunday, as we:
  • receive rest for our souls and Jesus's wisdom for these times
  • enjoy a special presentation from the "Opening the Treasure" families
  • see each household receive a special resource for celebrating faith at home
  • celebrate God's faithfulness and generosity as we bring our offerings and commitment cards

Our souls need peace in these times. See you at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m on Sunday

GATHERING OPPORTUNITIES
Sunday, we celebrate the new 5 week "Opening the Treasure" Bible Introduction Class for Caregivers and Children together. We're so thankful for all the families who participated in this journey. Students will be participating in today's worship by reading us a treasured bible verse and receiving a blessing over their own bibles.

Sunday is Commitment Sunday!
We invite everyone to remember God’s faithfulness and prayerfully consider how you feel moved to support Pilgrim this coming year. Commitment forms will be collected during the offering today.

Tending to Our Souls Post Election- Wednesday, November 16th at 7 p.m. in the parlor.  We are in a difficult and anxious post election moment. Amidst the violence, fear, anger, and mistrust, how do we tend to our souls? What can we do as parents and as concerned citizens to make a positive difference in our city and country? Dr. Bianka Hardin of Centered Therapy Chicago and Pastor Kristian Johnson of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School will be creating time and space for reflection, dialogue, and support centered these two questions. We will have an art activity for children in a nearby space for those with children. Thank you.

Dining Group—On Sun. November 20th at 5:30 we will experience wonderful Cuban food at 90 Mile Café, in the Lincolnwood Town Mall, McCormack Blvd. & Touhy. There is plenty of parking. Please reserve with Julie, 773-674-3140 or cell 773-366-0724.

Quilters' & Crafters' Play Date
—Join us this afternoon between 1-7 p.m. for an afternoon of sewing, scrapbooking, knitting or whatever other craft you'd like to bring. If you plan to sew, bring your own machine. Irons and cutting mats will be available. Bring a snack to share, and we'll order dinner around 5 p.m., which usually runs no more than $10 per person. Questions? Contact Chris Wallis cewallis1949@yahoo.com

Please join us Saturday, December 3 at 9:30 a.m. to decorate the sanctuary. This is a great family activity, since kids can help with the wreaths, ornaments and garlands. Weather permitting we will also be hanging lights outside. Refreshments will be served! To volunteer contact Chris Wallis at cewallis1949@yahoo.com

PREPARE (GROWTH) OPPORTUNITIES
Explore the Bible—Would you like to learn more about the Bible? Discuss spirituality and faith in a non-threatening, non-judgmental context? We invite you to join us next week at 9:15 a.m. in Maring Hall as we read and discuss the Bible together… there is NO EXPERIENCE necessary. In honor of the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, we are exploring the Bible and what Martin Luther means to us and to the world today.

Prayer Time
—We invite you to join us Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. at the Parsonage for a time of prayer... it is so renewing!

New Member Classes—What does ‘Lutheran’ mean? How can Pilgrim help me and my family grow in faith? What does it mean to become a member of Pilgrim? If you’re at all curious about any of these questions, please explore with us. Child care is provided throughout each class. You can attend the three classes in any order. Please RSVP to the Church Office Administrator, Renee, at churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org

SENT TO SERVE
Prayer and Care Boxes—We will assemble “Prayer and Care” Baskets for our seniors and shut-ins. Last year, over 40 baskets were assembled and delivered by Pilgrim members. If you have any Christmas decorations, devotional books, chocolate, or any other gifts a senior might enjoy, please bring them to the Pastor’s office or bring them to our assembly session on Sunday, December 4th at 9:20 a.m. For more information, please call Anna-Kari Johnson (773) 990-0814 or PastorAKJ@gmail.com. Many thanks to you all!

Pilgrim's 12th Annual Toy Drive! On Tuesday, December 16th Miss Stone’s 1/2 grade class and the 7/8 grade elves are scheduled to hop
on a bus to deliver the toys collected at this year’s Toy Drive. The planning for the afternoon is underway, the bus is reserved, the supplies have been ordered… now we need the toys! Every year for the past 11 years the Pilgrim community has helped bring Christmas joy to children at Pablo Casals Elementary School in Humboldt Park. This year we are aiming high and hope to collect enough toys for not only the 46 first graders with whom our 1st and 2nd graders will spend the afternoon but also gifts for all the Pablo Casals preschoolers, kindergartners and 2nd graders-a total of at least 185! We can reach that goal but obviously we need as much help as we can get. Here is how you can help:

Job Opening: Bookkeeper—This position supports the ministry of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School through important bookkeeping duties. The position is 32 hours a week and requires someone with proficiency in accounting practices and excel, maintaining a general ledger, and with excellent communication and people skills. Please send resumes by email attachment to pastorkristian@pilgrimchicago.org

Thank You to Jeanne Valencia for your years of service as our Pilgrim’s Progress Church Newsletter editor. She dedicated hours to make sure we were well informed with enough photos and clip art to inspire us to do God’s work. We are looking for someone(s) to match her talent and continue the tradition of a newsletter, probably on a quarterly basis. Contact churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org if you are interested or want more info.

Coat Angels—For the last several years, Pilgrim has partnered with Coat Angels (founded by a former Pilgrim parent) to collect and purchase coats and help this amazing organization keep students of Chicago warm. Shellie Riedle and Samantha Doerfler are hoping to find a volunteer to learn the ropes and take over this partnership going forward. It's truly inspirational and a wonderful way to give back. The work is minimal and the ROI is amazing!
Contact samanthadoerfler@hotmail.com to help out. We'll have smaller volunteer opportunities throughout the season- packing coats, sorting, shopping, etc. Be on the lookout! Get more information at - http://coatangels.org/about. Coat Angels has helped over 4,000 children—still just a fraction of those that need our help. But we continue to grow our base of Coat Angels. The generous individuals and businesses who are our donors and volunteers move ever closer to ensuring no child in Chicago goes to school cold.
