Dear Friends,

Join us this Sunday as we honor all men with a special blessing, a gift, and a root beer float! Also during our 9:30 a.m. worship service, we welcome Kathy Danner, the Hardin-Fryes and the Telford Family into membership!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Also please pray for our new member Evelyne Manning, who is in very critical condition in the ICU at Swedish Covenant Hospital.
Calling all Set Designers- tomorrow at 9 a.m.!
We encourage volunteers of all ages (including teenagers!) to build a mountain and set up tents in Maring Hall tomorrow! Please come and bring camping supplies! You don't need to be a Wyeth  or Monet to help paint canvas tarps in "rocky" colors, or turn cardboard into grass or trees.   Please join us on Saturday, June 15th, at 9 a.m. to cut, paint, trace, and squish various simple raw materials into scenery.. Weather permitting, the actual painting will take place outside in the play/parking area. Free childcare will be provided with babysitter at the parsonage, 4332 N. Winchester. Call Anna-Kari Johnson for more info, 773-990-0814.

VBS Volunteers Training
Calling all VBS volunteers (all ages and teens!) to and important prep meeting on Monday, June 17th, at 6:30 p.m. in Maring Hall. We'll have a Bible study to go over the five lessons included in the kids' experience, and review the program so all the leaders and helpers will be familiar with the flow of events.
Free childcare will be provided with babysitter at the parsonage, 4332 N. Winchester. Call Anna-Kari Johnson for more info, 773-990-0814.
Potbelly Fundraiser
on Thursday, June 20th
Take a night off of cooking and join some friends while raising money for Pilgrim! Potbelly Sandwich Shop in Lincoln Square (4709 N. Lincoln Ave.) will donate 25% of ALL sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20th to Pilgrim.  Yes, you read that correctly: the donation applies to all sales, so there is no need to mention Pilgrim when ordering.  If you can't make it out, the deal also applies to all deliveries made during that same time period.  As a bonus, the Thursday night farmer's market and summer concert series will be in full swing so come out for a night of fun

The Dining Group will be going to Moody’s Pub, 5910 N. Broadway, on Sunday, June 23rd, for al fresco dining at 5:30pm. Please let Julie Lea know if you plan to join the party; 773-764-3140. Thanks!

Help needed this week!
Pilgrim Church members - your assistance is urgently needed: Please help empty out the cabinets in the kitchen where the good dishes are. The cabinet is pulling away from the wall and David Emery will be working on it very soon. We hope to have this done by next Saturday.

Please contact Angela Cardo at office.pilgrim@gmail.com to let her know you're available and when you can help.
A Letter from Common Pantry
Here’s what Pilgrim heard in June in response to our efforts in support of Common Pantry’s mission:

Dear Pilgrim Church,
On behalf of Common Pantry, our volunteers and our clients, I want to personally thank you for coordinating an amazing food drive. The collection brought in approximately 209 lbs. of supplies that will stock our shelves for what is proving to be a very busy 2013. The considerable time and effort you dedicated to this food drive is truly appreciated. These donated items are distributed via two weekly emergency food distribution sessions and a monthly home delivery program for seniors in our community.
Sincerely,
Scott Best, Director

Pilgrim’s Vision Going Forward
Throughout the summer and fall, we’re going to be exploring the habits the early church adopted in Acts 2. We’re going to be bringing back some of the content and feedback we received through the “40 Days to Shape our Future” during Lent. We’ll be lifting up our proposed mission statement and core practices and how they could be used to shape our future ministry:

June 30th—VBS celebration: Praise God with all generations together
July 14th—Invite Everyone to be Present (youth emphasis Sunday)
July 21st—Grow in prayer and the word: Bring your Bible to church Sunday, Blessing of the Bibles
July 28th—Respond by advocating Justice for the Vulnerable
August 25th—Invest time, talent, and resources generously
September 8th—Lift up Academic Excellence with a Heart
September 15th—(Block party Sunday) Mpower Homes for Faith Formation
September 22nd—Preach on Mission Statement: In Christ's love, we gather, prepare, and send all as leaders for God's mission in the world. (GPS)
Congregational Forum on the Core Values (after service)
September 29thCongregational Meeting to approve core values

Please join us in worship this summer as we reflect on the question: What are the habits are we as Pilgrim going to form as we see the Holy Spirit move within us?

VBS registrations are due by June 15th--that's tomorrow!!
You’ll find a link to the online registration form on Pilgrim’s home page, . VBS is open to all Pilgrim and neighborhood kids ages 3 to 12; it will begin with a barbecue dinner at 5:30 pm and activities from 6- 7:45 p.m. on Monday, June 24th, and continue on Tuesday through Friday morning, from 9:00 until noon, concluding at the 9:30 a.m. worship service on June 30th. The link on the home page also works if you want to volunteer! There are also registration forms for students and volunteers on the table at the back of the church. The cost for the week, which covers snacks, crafts and other materials, is $35 for one child, with a $50 maximum per family. Paper registration forms as well as checks made payable to Pilgrim Lutheran Church can be dropped off in the church office, or left in Amy Kaniff's mailbox at church.

Our Prayer for Sunday
O God, throughout the ages you judge your people with mercy, and you inspire us to speak your truth. By your Spirit, anoint us for lives of faith and service, and bring all people into your forgiveness, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
2 Samuel 11:26—12:10, 13-15: King Solomon prays at the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem, built under his direction. Solomon prays that the temple will be a sign of God’s presence and power, not only to the Israelites, but to all peoples.

The second reading is Galatians 2:15-21: Paul preaches on the power of God’s grace to make us faithful. We are made right with God through Jesus Christ alone, through no work of our own. As a result, Christ’s life has become our whole identity.

The Psalmody is Psalm 32:The you forgave me the guilt of my sin. (PS. 32:5)

The Gospel is Luke 7:36—8:3: Through a dramatic encounter of rich and poor, righteous and sinner, Jesus teaches the relationship between receiving mercy and responding with a lavish outpouring of love. Jesus also provokes his host by claiming authority to forgive sins.
