Subject: A Non-Prophet Church?

Pilgrim Update
Dear Friends,

Once we have been saved by grace, there's nothing more important than learning to hear from God. One of the ways God speaks to us is through the prophets.
I don't know about you... but I grew up hearing about prophets as people that existed in the Bible, but not in real life... in our time. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. as we explore the gifts prophets (both biblical and modern day) bring to us...

PREPARE (GROWTH) OPPORTUNITIES
Giving a Gift to All of our Children
Dear Friends of Pilgrim,
When the last day of school for 2013-2014 ended on June 11, Pilgrim bid a master teacher farewell one last time. Even though Dave Maring retired as the Principal of Pilgrim three years ago, he has continued to teach math and work with students at school. As he ends his 49-year career working with our students, Pilgrim has established the Dave Maring School Endowment Fund in his honor. As soon as a minimum of $50,000 is invested, the school may start using interest from the fund to finance a variety of school projects, including tuition assistance, professional development for staff, and development of new programs for students.
Right now, generous donors from the congregation have made a challenge to the whole Pilgrim community—current families and friends, as well as alumni, their families and friends—to raise a total of $25,000. Once that amount is raised, the donors will add another $25,000 to the total. Meeting this challenge is an awesome way that the Pilgrim community can honor the work that Dave Maring has done for the school and continue his good works into the future.
Please consider a donation of any amount. Our goal is to announce our success at Pilgrim Fest on September 14, 2014. Donations can be made on-line through a link on the Pilgrim website: www.pilgrimchurchandschool.org, or with a check make out to Pilgrim and “DMSE Fund” written in the memo line. If you have any questions, please talk to any of the DMSE Fund Committee members (Ed Nelson, Dale Halter, Sam Doerfler, Alison Hays or Anita Zajac) or contact the church office. Your generosity helps to ensure that the mission of Pilgrim School is moving forward: “Academic Excellence with a Heart!”

THIS SUNDAY
Our Prayer for Sunday
O God, you direct our lives by your grace, and your words of justice and mercy reshape the world. Mold us into a people who welcome your word and serve one another, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Numbers 11:16-29;
The Spirit of God rested upon seventy elders in Israel who had been chosen to share the burden of leadership with Moses. When some became jealous that two others also had the spirit and could prophesy, Moses said that he hoped that all of God’s people would be prophets.

The Gospel reading is Matthew 10:40–42;
When Jesus sends his disciples out as missionaries, he warns them of persecution and hardships they will face. He also promises to reward any who aid his followers and support their ministry.
