Subject: A Mountaintop Experience

Pilgrim Announcements

Dear Friends,

What would it be like to get a message directly from God about our lives and what we're going through?

Join us this Sunday as we bask in the mystery and the clarity of Jesus' presence in our lives... at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.!

Know that you are LOVED this Valentine's Day weekend... by God and by your church!

World Day of Prayer Service
Join us for a special and deeply moving "World Day of Prayer" Service on Friday, March 6th at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim.  We will be joining together with members from Luther Memorial Church and others as we engage in a world-wide movement for prayer and peace that originated with a group of prayerful women in France.   It is a very calming and renewing experience!

PREPARE (GROWTH) OPPORTUNITIES
MOPS is a morning group for moms. Discussions and speakers focus on relevant, important, and interesting topics. MOPS usually meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 9:15 – 11:15 a.m. at 4332 N. Winchester Ave. We are so excited for our MOPs meeting this Thursday, February 19th! This week we have guest speaker Kate Leipprandt; Kate is Managing Director of Baldwin Financial Advisors, LLC. (Arlington Heights, Illinois), a registered investment advisory firm, involved in fee-based financial planning, consulting and education for individuals and small businesses. Kate is a professional speaker who has appeared as national spokesperson for a major financial services firm in national TV advertisements, as well as in “Business Week”, “U.S. News and World Report” & “Working Woman” magazines and other publications including the Chicago Tribune. She will be leading a presentation on college planning, investment strategy, and retirement planning for the group as well as a Q&A session to cover any other topics you are interested in. Childcare available on-site!

Bible Discussion Time: Unpacking Discipleship

First Communion Class– Begins February 18th
We invite everyone who is in 2nd grade or older to participate in our upcoming First Communion Program, which will be February 18th at 5:30 p.m. The interactive class is focused on helping us grow in our relationship with God. We will cover the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, the 10 commandments, and the meaning of the sacraments.
Confronting Pharaoh Training
We pray every week: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…” But how can we live that prayer? Many of us are blessed to give money to charity, but what if we could do something more. What if we could let our lives, not just our money, be part of the solution to a safer and more just city?
Join us for a two part training called “Confronting Pharaoh” that is rooted in our Christian faith and located right here in our neighborhood!
  • When: Part 1:  Sunday, February 22 from 1-4pm, Part 2:  Sunday, March 22nd from 1-4 p.m.
  • Where: Ravenswood UCC (2050 W. Pensacola Ave, Chicago)
These trainings will be lead by Community Renewal Society www.communityrenewalsociety.org For more information contact: Ryan Wallace, (312) 673-3852 rwallace@communityrenewalsociety.org

SENT TO SERVE
Consider an Offering to Hot Meals
The increase in guests to the hot meals has led to increased expenses for food and supplies (not for the volunteers… they work for free) Currently, our Hot Meals fund is in the red. This ministry makes such a big impact and touches so many hundreds of lives every month!  So if you would like to make a special offering to Hot Meals, please go to tinyurl.com/give2pilgrim and in the “other” box, type “Hot Meals” and then indicate the amount you would like to give.

Thank you to Pilgrim Students and Teachers!
Over the past couple of weeks, Pilgrim students have made over 750 valentines for our community. And of course they couldn’t have completed such a gigantic task without the help of our fantastic teachers. So a big THANK YOU! for their hard work in making all of the Valentines to let our community know that they are loved! We passed these Valentines out to the commuters outside the Montrose L station this past Friday, February 13th and they were very well received!

THIS SUNDAY
Prayer for this Week
Almighty God, the resplendent light of your truth shines from the mountaintop into our hearts. Transfigure us by your beloved Son, and illumine the world with your image, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Readings
2 Kings 2:1–12 (NRSV)
This reading centers on the transfer of power and authority from the prophet Elijah to Elisha. Their travels, which retrace the path of Joshua back to Moab (the place where Moses died) and the parting of the waters, demonstrate that Elisha and Elijah are legitimate successors of the great prophet Moses.

2 Corinthians 4:3–6 (NRSV)
The spotlight of Christian ministry is not on the people who carry out ministry but on the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as God made light shine out of darkness at creation, God makes the light of Jesus Christ shine in our lives through Christian ministry.

Mark 9:2-9 (NRSV)
Mark's gospel presents the transfiguration as a preview of what would become apparent to Jesus' followers after he rose from the dead. Confused disciples are given a vision of God's glory manifest in the beloved Son.
FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
‘Those 70s Shows’
Groovy Gala & Auction—Mar 7
The auction is less than a month away and all we can think about are parties, parties, parties! We have had some great parties in the past years and we are looking for those of you who have hosted to think about continuing the tradition and those of you who haven't to consider hosting something this year! We have some groovy ideas and would love to help you out if you are willing to host but aren't sure what to do! Parties are a huge fundraiser for the auction and they really provide some fun socialization and getting to know new people who you might not cross paths with at school. Contact Sam at samanthadoerfler@hotmail.com or Amy Campbell, Auction Parties Chair, at soupboxer@yahoo.com. The parties form is attached if you just need to turn it in- we really need these by 2/19 at the latest!

We need volunteers at the event! We have a huge need for volunteers the night of the auction for various assignments. Sign up early for your preferred time! You can find all the volunteer needs HERE

Many families have supported the donation drive for the auction and we are wrapping up the final collection. All items that are a part of this year's auction (silent, live or other) must be turned in by 2/13.  This is our very last chance to maximize our items and really have a spectacular selection of items! If you have not donated your one item to the auction (we are asking each family to solicit or donate at least one item), please do so by Friday or reach out to Sam as to how you can contribute after the deadline. We have some really amazing items that are new this year, so get ready to bid! The silent auction starts online on 2/23.

The tuition raffle tickets are slowly but surely selling out - each one is closer to the limit of how many we plan to sell so get yours now before they are gone! This raffle is for your first child's tuition at Pilgrim for a WHOLE YEAR! These can be purchased online, as well as tickets to the event and Teacher's Day Off Tickets HERE.

ALUMNAE: Come to the 2015 Auction!!!
Do you know any Pilgrim School Alumnae??? Pilgrim wants to get the word out to all Alumnae and their families about the totally retro cool "Those 70's Show Auction" on March 7th. Please reach out to any Alumnae you may know and direct them to the Pilgrim Facebook page or the Pilgrim Church and School website to
find out more information, purchase tickets, donate an item to the auction or simply to reconnect to the Pilgrim Community!!! On that note of re-connection; Pilgrim is trying to develop an Alumni association and we are in need of your help.  If you are a graduate, parent or grandparent or friend of a graduate and know their current address, please contact our Ministry Associate, Bilise Bekele at bekele.pilgrim@gmail.com . If you don't want to divulge their address, then please let the graduate know Pilgrim wants to reconnect so that they can send it to us.  Thank you!

Quick and Easy way to Support the Auction!
Why not consider buying a gift card or two to donate to the Auction on March 7th?!  These can be purchased on Sunday after the 10:30 a.m. service, in the school office on Mondays, or by contacting Anne Barsano (cbarsano@aol.com) 773-472-6037 The auction committee would really appreciate your donation!
