GATHERING OPPORTUNITIES
Dear Friends,  This Sunday at 9:30 a.m., we welcome a renowned preacher named David Langseth to Pilgrim's pulpit.   Pastor Langseth is famous for his 3 point sermons... and I guarantee you will be blessed by hearing all three!  It will be a very special Sunday, we hope you'll join us!
Celebration of Rev. David Langseth’s 50th Anniversary of Ordination - This Sunday we have a celebration in honor of Pastor Kristian’s father-in-law, Pastor Anna-Kari’s father, David Langseth. Pastor Langseth served congregations in Boston, New York, and most recently in Schaumburg, IL.  The Langseth family will be hosting a brunch reception in his honor following the 9:30 a.m. service. Thank you to Pilgrim for helping to honor him and his ministry.

This Sunday we welcome Bishop Wayne Miller to Pilgrim! Since his installation in September of 2007, Bishop Wayne N. Miller has been serving the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, helping its congregations and communities to embrace renewal, growth, and positive change. He is a member of the ELCA Conference of Bishops Task Force on Immigration Reform, and chair of the committee on Ministry Among People in Poverty. He is currently the president of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago. We are grateful for his presence with us and his ongoing work with our Synod's 182 congregations.

Vacation Bible School Volunteers needed - In addition to a number of positions for group leaders and helpers we need a leader for the Games portion of the program. This entails leading groups of kids through approximately 20 minute segments of active outdoor play. The curriculum includes suggested games or you can come up with your own activities. Please contact Chriscewallis1949@yahoo.comif interested. VBS is scheduled for the mornings of July 17-21.

Feed the Hungry - Since we did not take a special collection in support of local and world efforts to feed the hungry on the first Sunday of July, we are doing so today. Whether you want to support the Pilgrim Saturday Hotmeals program or one of several other worthy missions, we invite you to use the special envelopes provided in each pew, check off one of the designated missions listed, enclose your donation of any amount, take the envelope with you when you go for communion and hand the envelope to the usher.

Commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation with a Tour of the LSTC Rare Book Collection - One way to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation is to schedule a tour of the
Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC, 1100 E. 55th St., Chicago, IL 60615) rare book collection for a group from our congregation. This collection features original copies of many of Luther’s most important writings (95 theses, Diet of Worms, Freedom of a Christian, 1522 translation of the NT, etc.). Tours take about 90 minutes and are free. To learn more or to schedule a tour, contact Ralph Klein, curator of rare booksrklein@lstc.edu773-238-1856.
