Subject: New Project Alert

We are thrilled to announce that the Maternal and Child Health Bureau has chosen NICHQ to lead a national initiative aimed at making infant safe sleep and breastfeeding the national norm.
The five-year National Action Partnership to Promote Safe Sleep Improvement and Innovation Network (NAPPSS-IIN) engages champions within the systems that intersect with infant caregivers and families at risk to disseminate infant safe sleep and breastfeeding messages. Participants will develop and test a small set of evidence-based practices—known as a safety bundle—and guide implementation and refinement of the bundle across sectors (e.g., hospital settings, social services and childcare settings) to improve the likelihood that infant caregivers and families receive consistent, evidence-based instruction about safe sleep and breastfeeding.

“We have a significant portfolio of projects that have focused on infant safe sleep and breastfeeding individually. We are excited to bring these two health topics together and leverage the collective learnings from NICHQ’s and other previous work to have an even greater impact,” says NICHQ Senior Director Jennifer Ustianov, MS, BSN, RN, IBCLC.
