Subject: Stewards of the Bible

The National Council of Churches: Stewards of the Bible
...the ordinances of the Lord are true
and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey,
and drippings of the honeycomb.

-Psalm 19:9b-10, NRSV

In this time when religion influences so many world events and so many disputes arise out of its interpretation, the National Council of Churches is proud to have produced two landmark English translations of the Bible: the Revised Standard Version (RSV) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), the most ecumenical of all Bible translations available.

The New Revised Standard Version of the Bible (NRSV) was published in 1989 and has received the widest acclaim and broadest support from church leaders and academics of any modern English translation.

In 2016 the National Council of Churches resumed active management of the RSV and NRSV, acquired new customers, reinvigorated the work of Bible Translation and Utilization and intensified efforts to highlight the NRSV, one of the world’s leading Bible translations.  It has been a critical year for these acclaimed translations.
These translations are as important today as they ever have been, and are an important part of the NCC's legacy. Your donation to the National Council of Churches helps insure the well-being of these English translations of Holy Scripture.

The NRSV was translated by a group that included scholars representing Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant Christian communions, as well as Jewish scholars. The mandate given the committee was summarized thusly: “As literal as possible, as free as necessary.”

One of the key roles of the National Council of Churches is to protect and distribute the best, most accurate and faithful English translations of Scripture.  Please donate generously during this holiday season!
