OSHA Compliance Workshop for Printers Deemed a Success!

A big thank you to the attendees at our first ever OSHA Compliance Workshop for Printers! The workshop was held October 11 and 12 at the Printing Industries of America headquarters in Warrendale, PA. Look for another workshop to be announced very soon!
The lineup of keynote speakers for the Annual Technical Conference (March 18–21 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA) is impressive, diverse, and growing. We expect to soon announce two additional keynotes (L to R: Dr. Joe Webb, Ken Fleisher, Kate Smith).

Dr. Joe Webb will share insights from his new book, The Third Wave, as he discusses print's role in a new era of smarter mobile phones and social media coupled with artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. A 38-year veteran of the print industry, Dr. Webb is one of the graphic arts industry's best-known consultants, forecasters, and commentators. “Mondays with Dr. Joe” appears every week in WhatTheyThink where he directs their Economics and Research Center’s market analysis and forecasting initiatives. He has written or co-authored four books and numerous studies and articles.

Ken Fleisher is a color scientist with the National Gallery of Art (NGA). Ken, an RIT alumnus, will explain the work of a color scientist in the art world. His responsibilities at NGA include color management of digital cameras, printers, and monitors; FADGI 4-Star compliance for image capture; workflow optimization and automation; technical evaluation of new equipment for suitability of purpose; and R&D of new technologies. Ken will reveal what he’s learned working in an environment where color perfection is expected.

Kate Smith is an internationally-recognized color expert, media personality, and president of Sensational Color, which provides corporations guidance on their use of color in product development and marketing. Her color advice has been featured on TV and major magazines such as MSNBC, HouseBeautiful, and InStyle. Prior to becoming a corporate consultant, Kate was an executive with America Online, Giftkits, and Reebok. She’ll educate TAGA conference attendees on how color is used to evoke emotion and impact the sales of products.

BWA Launches Safety Shield Designation

Have you heard about the new Safety Shield designation being offered during the 2018 Best Workplace in the Americas (BWA) award program?

It’s a new designation that recognizes companies with a superior commitment to protecting their employees. Those who achieve the Safety Shield designation will receive a plaque and the ability to use the Safety Shield logo to further solidify their commitment to a safe work environment with clients, employees, and competitors.

Another great benefit of the Safety Shield program: it works as a virtual assessment tool to evaluate a company’s safety program and OSHA readiness against the most frequent industry violations in a cost-effective way.

In order to participate in the Safety Shield program, you must first enter the BWAs. To learn more 2018 BWA awards including FAQs and videos on how to apply, visit www.printing.org/bwa.
