The Printing Industries of America's EHS Quarterly Bulletin has a fresh, new look! We hope you enjoy!
New Resources for Walking and Working Surfaces

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has updated its rule addressing walking and working surfaces. The rule, which took effect on January 17, 2017, is extensive and covers every area where an employee is required to work. Printing Industries of America’s Environmental, Health, and Safety team has been hard at work, developing new tools for this impactful rule. The changes to the rule require assessments and regular inspections of any and all work areas. Printing Industries of America has created checklists to determine compliance as well as determine the quality of training provided to employees. These checklists are intended to provide a benchmark for compliance with the updated rule. For more information, please contact the EHS Department at EHS@printing.org.

Injury & Illness Electronic Reporting Update

In 2016, OSHA issued a new rule that requires some industries including printing operations with more than 20 full-time employees to electronically report their injury and illness data. However, confusion circles around this rule because of its controversial nature and legal challenges. The original submission date was set for July 1st 2017 , but issues with launching the reporting website have occurred. Therefore, OSHA has pushed back the mandatory reporting date to December 1st, 2017. The website is currently operational. You can access the page here

If you have any questions on the new reporting process, contact a member of the EHS team for guidance.
