Why Local Matters

What does “buy local” mean to you? To many people what first comes to mind are the health benefits and peace of mind you get from buying locally sourced goods. While this is true, and a great point, have you considered the economic impact buying local can have as well? Not only are you buying goods from sources you could visit, but you’re putting money into the pockets of people in your own community. A recent study found when comparing produce bought at a local market vs. a supermarket, twice as much money stayed local when bought at the local market. The more money that stays local, the more that can be spent local, and that cycle perpetuates growth and development within the community.
