Community Engagement: Making Meaningful Connections That Count
Please join the Shenandoah Valley Pure Water Forum for the 2016 Annual Watershed Roundtable Meeting and our 20th anniversary celebration on Thursday, October 6 (9AM - 3:30PM) at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA. Dr.
Frank Dukes, Distinguished Institute Fellow and Former Director of the
Institute of Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia,
headlines this year's meeting where he will discuss methods to develop
collaborative efforts and engage communities around complex natural
resource and community development issues.
Ann Jurcyk, Virginia Outreach
and Advocacy Manager for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and
Joe McCue,
President of Friends of the Middle River, will compliment Dr. Dukes'
presentation with examples of organizing and engaging local constituents
around water quality issues through outreach and grassroots activities.
Following
the speakers and lunch, Bobby Whitescarver (Chesapeake Bay Foundation)
and John Kaylor (Headwaters Soil & Water Conservation District) will
lead participants on a field trip to include visits to two farms within
the Middle River watershed where an established riparian buffer and
river walk, and an innovative stream fencing program focused on
increasing participation by absentee landowners and tenant farmers will
be on display.
