Dear Friends of the Middle River,

The Staunton City Council will hear from Dominion Power about the pipeline through Augusta County on Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 pm at Robert E. Lee High School, 1200 North Coalter Street.

Show the Strong Opposition to the Pipeline
by turning out with your neighbors in Staunton and the surrounding communities this Thursday.

Also, make plans to attend the Saturday, September 6, Augusta County community meeting on the pipeline called by Augusta County Supervisor Tracy Pyles.

Visit Augusta County Alliance for more information.

Your Voices Are Being Heard!  Public opposition to the Dominion Power pipeline is growing rapidly.

About 150 residents turned out for Transition Staunton-Augusta's June 25 community meeting in Middlebrook. More than 500 residents signed a petition asking the Augusta Board of Supervisors to ask Dominion to discuss the pipeline. More than 400 residents attended the Board’s meeting with Dominion August 13.

We believe strong opposition from residents like you will convince Dominion this is no place to build a pipeline!

Dominion announced plans in June for a huge, 42-inch gas pipeline through 43 miles of southern Augusta County near Middlebrook. We believe public opposition was one reason Dominion proposed a new pipeline route in early August, generally following Route 250 from Highland County.

Either route through Augusta County could lead to a 200-foot wide construction corridor bulldozed through our community’s headwaters, streams and tributaries, private forest and farmland. The pipeline threatens landowners, communities, drinking water supplies and other resources.

The pipeline would impact remote and pristine  public lands, including the George Washington National Forest. One route would cross the Goshen – Little North Mountain Wildlife Management Area and Big Levels special biological areas, while the second would cross Shenandoah Mountain and an important source (drinking) water protection area.

Dominion has confirmed it needs a permanent 75-foot pipeline maintenance corridor, larger than the original 50-foot estimate.

Dominion has not yet filed an application for federal approval of any pipeline route.
Mark your calendars for the Saturday, September 6, Community Meeting in at the Government Center in Verona.
