Something Worth Reading

The September issue of FaithWriters Magazine is now available! This month we are giving you a taste of the quality articles from the newsletter. There is some wonderful content this time around (as always!) so be sure to check it out! Here is an excellent article by FaithWriters member, Suzanne R.

Bloom Where You Are Planted and Where You Are Transplanted
By Suzanne R.

The land was once lush but the ravages of desertification have left the earth scarred, bare of nutrient-rich topsoil and empty of life. The life-giving sun scorches any skerrick of desert grass. The gentle rains which once fell on these grasslands are but history from those days before the desert encroached. Spring winds do not bring warmth and life here as they do in other parts of the country. Rather, they whisk into motion the grains of sand and lift them high into the air, sending them hurtling to the grumbling people living in cities further south-east, coating their homes, cars, skin and even nasal and ear cavities with desert grit.

Into this pathetic scene comes a surprising source of hope. It is a shipment of young eucalypts (or gum trees as they are commonly known), a gift of the Australian government. Planted near a river which sluggishly meanders through valleys in this wasteland, and with the promise of outside help for a year or two to get them well established, these trees begin the reversal of environmental disaster.

The roots go down deep searching for water, and also spread broadly, preventing the leaf litter being washed or blown away. Over time, this leaf litter breaks down to create nutrient rich soil. The trees grow tall and mature. Their tiny pink blossoms open unobtrusively, quite unlike the gorgeous, huge peonies which are the pride of the people in whose land the eucalypts have been relocated, but which could never survive here. Unlike those gaudy flowers with their oversized heads, these small gum blossoms are contributing to the hope of this land’s reclamation from the desert.

Each year, the gum trees blossom, the flowers opening, fading and falling without observation or applause. Year by year, gum nuts form, their seeds falling onto the increasingly healthy ground below.

There is still very little rainfall, but more than there was. The climate patterns are changing, slowly but surely. The eucalyptus forest creeps further up the valleys, away from the river. Other types of plant life appear and animal life follows.

Not unreasonably, there is debate about how appropriate it is to bring in trees from abroad for reforestation in Asia. Undoubtedly, it is far better to find local trees which will send out roots deep and wide to reclaim the land.

Sometimes, though, there isn’t anything happening locally.

The point of this article is to plead with fellow Christians from around the world to bloom not just where we are planted, but to relocate to places where the land is spiritually bare. Believers often come from resource rich lands where we are well supported to grow tall and strong, to bloom and reproduce, and where we bring glory to our Maker and Sustainer. However, Scripture suggests that our Lord would have some of us relocate to parts of the world where spiritual desertification is stark.

In Central Asia, there are communities of thousands who have never even heard the name of Jesus Christ. The people here rub their prayer beads repetitively, mumbling their prayers, seeking somehow to build merit with the powers that be in this world. Where are the Christians who come with a message of hope and reconciliation?

In Northern Africa and the Middle East, fiercely religious men and women live out every aspect of their lives in obedience to and fear of a divine power who will judge. They need to hear of our Lord’s mercy, for they too can be recipients if only they accept the gift offered freely through the Son of God Himself. Yet, how can they hear if they live in a spiritual desert? Who will tell them?

If only there were Christians living in nearby places who would cross barriers of language and culture and share the good news of salvation. Without question, this is far and away the most ideal means of bringing life and hope to spiritual deserts. Supporting believers in nearby ethnic groups to reach out to their neighbors is paramount, but sometimes it is necessary to bring “trees” from across the world to put down and spread out their roots, and to live their lives for the purpose for which they were created in a land which needs life.

People of God, we are called to bloom, to thrive and to reproduce . . . but not necessarily where we were initially planted.

Where would God have YOU live for Him?

Good News for those not selected
Because there were so many powerful testimonies, coming up with the winners, was difficult! A plan is in place to make a page on the website that will include potentially all of the testimonies submitted. The number that end up on the website will be determined by the number of members who choose to upload their testimony to the new page we will create. We hope all of those who entered will eventually submit their testimony to the site once the new page is established. You never know who will be touched by your story!

Please Vote for The Testimony Cover Submissions
We need members to view the submitted covers and leave a message on that page. In your message, tell us which one you like the best. Please consider the fact that we may alter the titles. If you do not like any of the covers, be honest and tell us to keep looking. We will be reviewing your comments, and they will help us make a decision. EXPOSURE FOR MEMBERS
The Pocket Testament League accepted several of our members to be regular bloggers.

We sent out a private message a few weeks ago, seeking upgraded members who would be interested in writing regular articles for the Pocket Testament League blog. Several responded and have been accepted. Here is the first one that was published written by FaithWriters member, Lori Othouse: http://blog.ptl.org/bid/329969/The-Faces-of-Evangelism. Here is the second one, published by Abby Kelly: http://blog.ptl.org/bid/330507/Courageous-Evangelism

We are now making a request for a few more members to participate. This is great exposure and could lead to paying work with The Pocket Testament League. There will be several members involved, so this project will not be too time consuming. If you are interested in blogging for this 100-year-old ministry that spreads the gospel around the world, go here and send Mike a message: http://www.faithwriters.com/corp-contact.php

FREE READS FOR REVIEWS   For our authors and those who like to read books for free.

Would you buy a book that had no reviews from an author you did not know? Probably not.The truth is if you want your book to even be considered by readers, it needs reviews.

You may ask, "But what if I get bad reviews?" We urge to not be afraid of what you need to succeed. If your book is really as good as you think it is, you will get a decent amount of good reviews. This does not mean everyone will like it, but what do you have to lose? Step out in faith and find out what the world really thinks about your book. If it is meant to succeed, it will, but it needs reviews to get noticed in the ocean of books that are out there.

Here are a few of reviews posted on Amazon that have come in from the program. One of these books had zero reviews previously and now has three directly from this program.

1) I found Rae's Revenge and Redemption to be a well-written, compelling novel on a very timely subject. Ms. Iverson is gifted in the ability to describe the emotions of her characters and the events of her story with excellent focus. The helpful Biblical references throughout and workbook at the end are poignant to help anyone burdened with an unforgiving heart. The cover design is very appealing.

2) God in the ICU - When, as a young woman, I heard of Dr. Chris Barnard and his pioneering heart transplant, I never dreamed that I would one day review a book for a member of his surgical team. Mesmerized, I turned the pages and read story after enchanting story of God partnering with Dr. Dave Walker in both the healing process of his patients and his own return to faith. His book, God in the ICU, reassured me that many medical professionals still do depend on a much higher power than their own intuitive or educational training for the healing of their patients. Though not medically oriented myself, I found this book a captivating read.

3) "Washed" is a stirring story with real life characters. It shows the difference between the ways and the thinking of dedicated Christians and unbelievers. The spiritual wilderness and sordid blackness stirred by the devil - the evilness spiritually of some pagans. Yet the tale is wonderfully told with good coming through like a shining beacon in wonderful ways. It's young characters could well stir readers who are fence sitters or without any belief in the Lord. This is fiction that could stretch into fact in bringing intelligent readers to accept Christ as their Saviour. This cannot be said with most Christian fiction. It is enjoyable and the ringing message scores very high.

The Great Multitude Daily Bible Devotional for September 1st.

Are You Singing the Labor Day Blues?

Man goes out to his work and to His labor until the evening (Psalm 104:22).

During those years when I worked as a school nurse, Labor Day was not one of my favorite holidays. It represented summer’s last gasp, and I mourned its passing. My grief was compounded because it also meant the end of a work-free two months. With summers off, I cherished that do-what-I-want sultry eight weeks of summer where there was never a beach I didn’t like, or a barbeque I couldn’t refuse.

As I look back, my love affair with summer causes me to cringe at my ingratitude for the job God had supplied, especially after reading Psalms 104. In this chapter David records those things that God provides for all that He created. It reminds us that it’s God plan for man to work. It also reminds me of current, economic hard times where many Americans cannot “go out to work, “because they cannot find jobs.

So when carefree, summer vacations are memories that fade as quickly as your summer tan, when Labor Day signals it’s time to clean off the grill and put away the bathing suit, and every morning until next summer you are forced to turn off the snooze button in order to punch that time clock, don’t bemoan the end of summer. Just remember, seasons come and go because God is at work taking care of the universe. And one of His tasks is to give us a reason to celebrate the original meaning of Labor Day – the opportunity to work.

Faithwriters has had a long term relationship with and highly recommends Wine Press Publishing - CLICK HERE

FaithWriters is unique in it's dual purpose of training Christian writers and publishing original content for readers. We accept fiction, non-fiction, poems, devotionals, Bible studies and other articles written from a Christian perspective. You will not find all of these articles on a site that is strictly evangelistic in nature. Therefore, we may receive many visitors who would not go to a traditional evangelism site. Many may not even be looking for Jesus at all, but He still meets them when they visit. In our experience, God tends to find people right where they are in their life. This may be while they are reading your article about marriage or divorce. It might happen when they read about struggles with sin, or your fictional article. What we are saying is to keep on submitting your various pieces authored by you.

Men and women from over 220 countries are attracted to the FaithWriters site by your various articles on the end of our fishing pole. Many have no other way than the internet to find out about Jesus. They are able to learn a lot from our site, as well as the various sites to which we have provided links.

To date, at least 370 people have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior directly through the FaithWriters site. We know it is not about just about numbers. We also know that accepting Jesus in their heart and confessing Him is only where it starts. But it is an honor to consider the fact that God would use us in this way. Please pray for these new believers.

We contact every person who leaves an email address, and provide them with more information. Sometimes we correspond with them several times. We even offer to place them in contact with another believer (FaithWriters member) in their country.

Here are five of many emails we received.

1) Yes I Prayed and Accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I just like the idea of someone praying for me for I need all the help that I can get. I worked for 13 years as a licensed practical nurse and then I had to move to another state and try to find a job that are not readily available. Again I would just like to have someone pray for me. - Mark G, of Jena, Louisiana

2) Yes I Prayed and Accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My name is Rubinstyn Bluthenthal and the Lord has directed me to this awesome web site. I am a Freelance Writer and I have been led to produce inspirational articles being prompted by the Holy Spirit. All praise and glory go to God.

4) Yes I Prayed and Rededicated My Life to Jesus. Dan, U.S., lifelong Methodist but who still wants a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ

5) Yes I Prayed and Accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.
My name is Robomtin, born in one of the island (36sq.mile)in MICROnesia. Heading towards my late 50th earth years. Surfing the web and somehow, got me to this page, believed not to be an accident. Message compelled to pass: "Please PRAY and ask to
be guided when it comes to the Bible Interpretations." Try to avoid interpreting the Bible "word-for-word", need to be looked at as a "WHOLE". Allow the "Christ" in you to do the interpretation. Bless you for all your effort to REACH OUT!
