Subject: FaithWriters Newsletter October for Friend

FaithWriters October, 2012
News & information for the write-brained Christian
"The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice." - Proverbs 12:15 (NIV)

At one time or another (or for some of us, maybe all the time), we think we know what's best. Our way is right. And sometimes we let let our pride get in the way of listening to counsel. But according to the Bible, that's not wise. Getting advice from others is often the best way to discern God's will. Especially when faced with situations not clearly spelled out in the Bible.

The same goes for our writing. We sometimes want to think we know it all. But seeking help and advice from others who are further along in their writing journey is wise. Maintaining a teachable spirit is the only way we will grow. And no matter how far along you are, there is always something more to learn.

Be sure to read the Out of theMouths of FaithWriters section at the bottom of this newsletter to see some of the best writing advice our members have received.

FAITHWRITERS CONFERENCE
 2013

After taking a year off, the FaithWriters conference is back on! While the conference has always been held in Detroit, Michigan, this time we'll be in beautiful Portland, Oregon! The plan is to rotate between Portland, Detroit, and Orlando, Florida, so everybody has a chance to attend. Mark your calendars for June 28 and 29, 2013. Keep checking the conference Page for details. In the meantime, get in on all the conference chatter on the message boards: CONFERENCE THREAD

       Hope to see you there!
E is for EXCITING E-BOOKSTORE!

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF FAITHWRITERS

Last month, members were asked this question:

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF WRITING ADVICE YOU'VE RECEIVED?

Here are just a few of the many responses:

"The best advice about writing was at a writing conference: Good writing is rewriting. That made me feel a lot better." - Frankie Sherman

"Don't give up. Continue to write, whether or not your work ever gets published." - Dotty

"Never be your own last proofreader. Our eyes see what we know we've written, not what is actually on the page."Judith Robl

"Write with simple words and language. Don't try to impress the reader with a complex vocabulary." - John Clark

"Forget the rules of writing and just write what's on your mind. When you've finished, the remember the rules as you edit." - Anne Warden

"Write what you want to read." - June Ramsay

"Don't quit!" Julie

NEXT MONTH'S QUESTION:

WHAT ARE YOU MOST THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR?

Send your brief (1 to 2 sentences) response to Faithwriters.contact@yahoo.com. Then check the October newsletter to see if your answer was selected to appear.
