Each task has a different point value from one to ten entry credits and some can be done every day to build up entries. There is no limit to the number of entries you can earn and the more you do the greater your chances of winning. At the end of the contest the winners will be drawn randomly.

Xulon (zoo' lon): Greek word used by John to describe the Book of Life in Revelation.

Together We Spread the Gospel

We wanted to remind you that FaithWriters is unique in its dual purpose: We are writers and evangelists. On FaithWriters, you'll find fiction, non-fiction, poems, devotionals, Bible studies and other articles written from a Christian perspective; content you will not find on a site that is strictly evangelistic in nature, or on a general writing site. With so much variety, we receive many visitors who might not go to a traditional evangelism site. Many may not even be looking for Jesus, but Jesus still meets them when they visit. In our experience, God tends to find people where they are in their life. This may be while they are reading your article about marriage or divorce. It might happen when they read about struggles with sin or your fictional story. What we are saying is to keep on submitting your various pieces that could only be authored by you. You never know who will be touched and moved by your work.

Men and women from over 225 countries are drawn to the FaithWriters site by the various articles on the end of our virtual fishing pole. Many have no other way than the internet to find out about Jesus. They are able to learn a lot from our site and the sister-sites to which we have provided links. Many click on the sites we link to that offer in-depth information on Jesus because they are able to get more information in their native language.

Hundreds of people from around the world have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior directly through FaithWriters. Plus, as mentioned, we refer many people to other sites to help answer their questions and accommodate their language. We know it is not about just about numbers. We also know that accepting Jesus and confessing Him is just where it starts. It is honor to consider the fact that God would use us in this way. The numbers are encouraging for us though and we will love encouragement.

We contact every person who leaves an email address, and provide them with more information. Sometimes we correspond with them several times. We even offer to place them in contact with another believer (FaithWriters member) in their country.
Consider how much time people --- especially kids --- spend on the internet these days. Watch this two minute video on how Kimberly found God on the internet.

Here is a comment we just received after an ongoing conversation with with a woman who emailed us from the FaithWriters Jesus page.

"Thank you for all of this. Bless you all. I am starting this today, July 19, 2014. Please pray for me. My battles with my
"demons" are a tough one."

Thank You FaithWriters

We have paid editors who visit the Critique Circle on a regular basis and they are telling us they need more submissions. This is a real chance to receive some very constructive and private critiques of your writing.

One of the things I really like about the Critique Circle is the fact that in order to receive a critique, you must be willing to give one. Helping others has always given me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It feels nice to know my actions can help someone else have a good day. The Circle requires one to give in order to receive. Some people may shy away from leaving constructive critiques because they may not feel qualified. But even if you are new to the writing world, there is a good chance that you've been reading since you were just a tot. Knowing what you like or don't like is a big part of leaving a critique. If you find yourself stumbling over a sentence there is a good chance that the sentence needs to be restructured. When giving a critique instead of just saying your sentence needs restructuring, I find an example and then show them one or two ways I would write the sentence so it flows without the reader needing to stop and reread a section.

I've learned as much, if not more, about writing by paying attention to what I like or don't like in other articles. One of the reason I try to comment on every challenge entry is because I learn so much from reading and leaving feedback. For a critique to be considered constructive, it's important that the author trusts you. If you gush over everything you read, it can be difficult to believe if you love my story because I just so your comment on a different story that was filled with errors and didn't make sense. One of the things I do is start with a prayer asking God to guide my words and to be gentle yet kind. Then I try to start the critique with something positive. No matter how poorly written an article is, if you ask God to guide you then you will always find positive things to say. Next, I'll point out specific typos or errors and show them the corrected version. If I'm giving my opinion with something like show, don't tell, then I'll pick a line from their story and try to find examples that would be more of a descriptive picture than an accounting of events. Finally, I always try to end the critique with positive comments.

I do tell people who want more feedback on their stories that one of the best ways to get comments is to give them. Most weeks that I enter the challenge, I will receive lines of gold boxes. I believe that is because people are repaying the favor and leaving me comments because I'm faithful in leaving them comments.

Shann Hall is a FaithWriters moderator and long time member. She is one of the most helpful people we have on the site. Please be nice to her and the other moderators who help critique. It is not an easy job and the pay is lousy. They do this out of the kindness of their heart in a sincere effort to help writers.

"What's in a Name?" – by Toni Babcock

The Bible says "And the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch," (Acts 11:26 KJV).
Not Catholics, not Lutherans, not Presbyterians, not Baptists, not Pentecostals - they were first called "Christians". To get to the seed of the apple one must scour away the pulp that grows around it.

As a believer in Jesus, the name 'Christian' identifies me immediately with Christ - his person and his work, and the freedom I have in Him. This freedom extends to my fellowship with other believers. For instance, I am a Christian that currently attends a Baptist church with other believers. When vacationing, I go to an Evangelical Free Church to worship with other believers. Both churches preach salvation in the person and work of Jesus Christ. The Spirit of truth sown by the word of God within the two, hears the harmony of faith amid the differences. "Unity, without uniformity" is part of the liberty in the Spirit we share, even as Christ is our Shepherd. "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me," (John 10:27 KJV) the Lord assures.

Freedom is part of who true believers are. Not freedom to live without restraint, but freedom to serve Jesus in newness of Spirit, not in the oldness of the letter, which brings us to this; "…Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty," (II Corinthians 3:17b KJV ). Now here is a profound truth. Do we stand fast in our liberty in Jesus, so He is at liberty to do His work? Imagine Jesus free to work outside all the strict religious parameters man in his wisdom decides to frame for Him. We can stop imagining - because He does.

The First Mixed Blessings Book, Simple Pleasures, is out, and we could not be more excited. New Release filled with FaithWriters top Challenge winners

At last! The long wait is over. The first of the new “Writing Challenge” books, Mixed Blessings Simple Pleasures, has been released, and what a book it is. With one hundred bite-sized stories, articles, and poems, by over fifty fantastic FaithWriters Challengeers including the talented Jan Ackerson, Kenn Allan, Teri Wilson, Beth LaBuff, Melanie Kerr, and a whole lot more, this makes a perfect bedside book or gift. There really is something for every Christian reader in a Mixed Blessings book.

Simple Pleasures is the first in the constantly growing Mixed Blessings series from Breath of Fresh Air Press. Each book is compiled almost entirely from our Writing Challenge Editors’ Choice winners over the last seven years. To date, there are over 460 authors involved in this massive project, with 2,900 articles in 29 books. Each quarter of the Writing Challenge will add more authors to the list, and another hundred articles.

Writing Challenge Coordinator and owner of Breath of Fresh Air Press, Deb Porter, says, “These books have been a long time coming, but I wanted them to perfect, and our first book, Mixed Blessings—Simple Pleasures, is worth the wait. I love everything about it. It is a delight from start to finish. I have too many favorites to list.”

Deb also mentioned that through the preparation of this first book, she has rediscovered the amazing talent of some old FaithWriters members, and is now working on book projects with three of the authors featured in this first book.

Mixed Blessings books are another excellent reason to enter the weekly Writing Challenge, which begins again after a brief hiatus on July 10. Apart from the main benefit of honing your skill by writing to topic, word count and deadline, and the possibility of winning a cash prize each quarter (or even becoming the Best of the Best each July), there is also the possibility of having your work published. And who knows? Deb may rediscover you, too. So if you haven’t entered the Challenge in a while, or maybe never tried it at all, jump on it. You never know where it may lead.

Although the Challenge is the best way to be included in a Mixed Blessings book, there are ways to sneak into one much sooner, as did Helen Curtis, Robyn Burke, and Marty Wellington with Simple Pleasures. “There are times an eligible author is not able to be contacted, even after extensive efforts and super sleuthing,” Deb said. “On those occasions, we need to put a call out for gap-filler articles, stories, and poems. So keep an eye out in the FaithWriters forums, Facebook page, Twitter, and Breath of Fresh Air Press for those special opportunities.”

Book 2, Mixed Blessings—Classically Inspired, is due to be released in October this year.
