BID takes on retail crime scene

A scheme which aims to reduce retail crime and anti-social behaviour throughout Watford town centre has had a new lease of life after it transferred to Watford Business Improvement District (BID) to run.
Watford Business Against Crime (WBAC) is an information sharing scheme, which links retailers directly with each other, the CCTV centre and nominated PCSOs and police officers who work in the town centre, via a radio link system. Information gathered from retailers and the police, is analysed to identify crime patterns, persistent retail offenders, and those identified as ‘lifestyle criminals’.

The scheme transferred to Watford BID in April 2017, after previously sitting under the Watford & West Herts Chamber of Commerce. The BID has appointed John Hattingh (second from right on the above picture) as the new Watford Business Against Crime co-ordinator.
Retailers pay a membership fee to join the scheme, dependent on the size of their workforce. An annual fee is also charged for the rental of the radio system. Members range from large retailers including Primark, Marks & Spencer and Sainsburys, to small independents including The End and Repertoire.

Jason Lee, store manager for Repertoire, a designer menswear store on Queens Road, and newest member of the Business Against Crime Scheme said, “Shoplifting is a concern for retailers in all town centres and Watford is no different. By working together and linking in with the police, to share intelligence about convicted retail crime and fraud offenders, we can be more effective at reducing it.”

Watford Business Against Crime is open to retailers in and around the town centre – not exclusive to BID levy payers. Any business interested in joining can contact John Hattingh on 07732 009438 or email him: john.hattingh@herts.pnn.police.uk BID levy payers can download an application on the BID Members Hub.

Watford FC want you to join them
at The Graham Taylor Tribute
Match day on Sat 5th August

Here's a great chance to play your part in a very visual tribute to Watford's greatest ever manager

Watford FC wants to decorate the Rookery Stand seats – either side of a giant GT banner currently being produced by The 1881 Movement– with your scarves, shirts and other larger items that you're prepared to donate to the display. So now's your chance to provide some of those items, all of which will be donated to KitAid after August 5 – a charity which Graham was patron of. Staff at The Hornets Shop on Vicarage Road will be happy to receive your items. You can either drop by in person or post them to: Graham Taylor Tribute, The Hornets Shop, Watford FC, Watford, WD18 0ER

Watford FC has got a host of fun family activities being run by their Community Trust; they are running from 12noon to 2.30pm in Stadium Way (behind the Rookery) and within the Rookery Stand lower concourses.

Friend of Graham's family, John Motson will address the crowd before the teams take to the field, where they'll be presented to Rita Taylor. At half-time, there'll be a parade of Graham Taylor players from both his eras in charge of the Hornets. At the end of the game, the presentation of The Graham Taylor Trophy will take place on the pitch.

Tickets are just £10 / £7.50 / £5, with net profits from the day split between Graham's family's chosen charities: The National Memorial Arboretum and the Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust.
