December 2017 Newsletter

Happy December everyone! This month's newsletter, focused on data and governance, ties into the report released last month that responds to the US's proposed withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement. On November 11, 2017, America's Pledge Report was released at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany.

The report was released by California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. (COP 23 Special Advisor for States and Regions) and Michael R. Bloomberg (United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change), and is the first communication to the international community specifically addressing the scope and scale of sub-national climate action in the United States following this decision. It captures and quantifies the support from cities, states and businesses representing more than half the U.S. economy and population.

Fun fact: If these states, regions and cities were a country, their economy would be the third largest in the world!

Did you also know that a total of 20 U.S. states, 110 U.S. cities, and over 1,400 businesses with U.S. operations representing USD $25 trillion in market capitalization and nearly 1.0 gigatons of GHG emissions per year have adopted quantified emissions reduction targets?

Envision Charlotte is excited to be working closely with the City of Charlotte, a proud member of the Global Covenant of Mayors, to set and achieve aggressive climate goals. Stay tuned for some exciting work that is coming up!
