And he laid his right hand upon me, saying, Fear not; I am the first and the last. Revelation 1.17.

God has made a beginning with this world, yet what will be its end? To this question God himself gives the answer. In the very first chapter of the book of Revelation we have this declaration by the Lord: “I am the first and the last.” This is the revelation of Jesus Christ. And in the last chapter of the book He again declares: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end” (22.13). This too is the revelation of Jesus Christ.

In other words, what God has begun, He will in truth finish; what has not been solved earlier in the Garden of Eden, He will solve later on. His redemption is perfect and complete; and His eternal plan must be accomplished. All the problems which we cannot resolve today, He will definitely solve in the coming day. Thank God, one day Christ will conclude all things because He is the last just as He is the first. This, then, is the revelation of Jesus Christ. God shows us that this One who is the first and the last is indeed the answer to all questions.
