Following After Peace - by Karen Pourbabaee

“For He Himself is our peace.” Ephesians 2:14 NAS

Peace is elusive, a limited commodity in our present age. There are wars and rumors of wars throughout the globe. Atrocities unimaginable. Disasters, natural and personal. So many elements that rob us of peace.

What is peace? In Old Testament times, it was the usual word of greeting. It is defined as harmony, serenity, calm, tranquility, an undisturbed state of mind, absence of mental conflict. Certainly a lovely sentiment to express upon greeting a fellow traveler. It’s a blessing according to Psalm 29:11, “The Lord will bless His people with peace.”

In Ephesians, Paul tells us that Jesus is our peace. Though we sometimes sense an elusiveness, God’s Word says we will find Him if we search with all our hearts. (Jeremiah 29:13 ) He’s always present… a prayer away. Waiting to be discovered. Once we find Him, we’ll also discover He doesn’t remain still or silent.

Jesus was a walker while on the earth. And He had a lot to say in His short time of earthly ministry. Today He keeps moving as well. We must keep up His pace. Follow after His presence. In following Jesus, we follow after Peace. Not the peace of the world, but true Peace.

The road to Peace is Jesus. We cannot find it in other people, other ideas or philosophies, in careers, or in the superficial pleasures of life. Those other paths of seeking leave us with degrees of unrest. St. Augustine said it well, “Our heart is restless until it rests in You.” That’s Peace.

Take the sure path. The narrow road. He beckons, come follow Me. Follow after Peace.
