“Finding out who I am as an individual continually seems to be a challenge,” said Kirk Lee, who believes she is “still in the process of becoming.” “… I have seen the Lord put me in places [and] looking around I say, ‘How did I get here and how does this work?’ I have been dumbfounded. He sees me as having value and I’ve only claimed where He says a person’s gifts make a place for them [Proverbs 18:16].” She loves the story of Deborah, though the judge of Israel is only mentioned in the midst of a greater narrative in Judges 4 and 5. Kirk Lee believes Deborah was a woman who knew who she was, Whose she was, and was extremely confident. Kirk Lee also reminds herself of her value in God’s eyes with this passage from the Desire of Ages, page 668: “The Lord is disappointed when His people place a low estimate upon themselves. He desires His chosen heritage to value themselves according to the price He has placed upon them. God wanted them, else He would not have sent His Son on such an expensive errand to redeem them. He has a use for them, and He is well pleased when they make the very highest demands upon Him, that they may glorify His name. They may expect large things if they have faith in His promises.” |
